lol, yeah i finally bit the bullet and went for it the other day. I'll work on a proper guide but for starters you d/l the packs, then follow the advice here;
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?threadid=141616

Detailed procedure:

Installation of the Patch 1.32:
copy farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe to your C root drive
open a command prompt window
run cmd
type cd c:
and
type: farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe /a and press enter
follow the wizard and extract on a new folder C:\AMD64UPGRADE

The unpacked files should have this structure:

C:\AMD64UPGRADE
PROGRAM FILES
UBISOFT
CRYTEK
FAR CRY
-BIN64
-FCDATA
-LANGUAGES
-LEVELS
-SHADERS
-SUPPORT

Now copy the folders
-FCDATA
-LANGUAGES
-LEVELS
-SHADERS
in your FC install folder overwriting and following the structure of the original directories.

For the Enhanced Content Patch:
copy farcry_amd64_ecu.exe to your C root drive

open a command prompt window
run cmd
type cd c:
and
type: farcry_amd64_ecu.exe /a and press enter
follow the wizard and extract on a new folder C:\AMD64ECU

The unpacked files should have this structure:

C:\AMD64ECU
PROGRAM FILES
UBISOFT
CRYTEK
FAR CRY
-FCDATA
-LEVELS
-SUPPORT

Now copy the folders
-FCDATA
-LEVELS
overwriting the same folders in your FC install folder following the structure of the original directories.

But this didn't work for me. I did the first bit fine with farcry_amd64_ecu.exe pack, but for the other pack i manually replaced what was different between the files from farcry_amd64_ecu.exe and what i had after completing the first stage. Works perfectly now, even with all my save games, and i was patched to 1.33 before, no dramas.

Thats a really rough guide but hope it helps mate ;)

Hi, this might sound stupid but i'l say it anyway, My system spec's are at the bottom of this.

I just want to know if it is really needed for me to do all of the above just to patch Far cry to ver 1.3 or is they an easier way, like can't i just download this patch...

The name of the patch is called: Wednesday 08.10.2005 Patch 1.33 Available

Here's a link to it:http://www.farcry.ubi.com/

2nd from the top.

Hey if i am wrong, then well i learnt somthing new.

no, since that patch is NOT for the 64-bit version ;)

to get all this happening you need to follow the instructions that unstrain and myself have provided...

I've always wanted to try this thing out, but didn't want to install XP64 just for it. This is probably the first thing I'll load up once I get my 7800GTs up and running. How much of a performance hit do the new textures and stuff cause?

Storyline in Far Cry worse than in Doom 3? Fine, I can see how someone could say that. But gameplay?! Far Cry had awesome gameplay. The AI was smart, the locations were large and gave a sense of non-linearity, and exploring was just awesome. Not to mention the ultra-realistic damage system added a good bit of fun as well. Doom 3 was just shoot, shoot, shoot, and shoot.

What do you mean you replaced what was differant? You copied all the files from every folder and clicked No when it asked to replace them? Was this just for the "farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe"? And the ECU one worked how the guide said? oh and which one should i do first?

how EXACTLY do you type it in the cmd prompt. Cause it won't work for me. It either says

...not recognized as an internal or external comand, operable program or batch file

or

...the system cannont find the path specified.

Ive got the exr files saved in my C drive, and ive typed it either all in one line: cd c: file

or cd c: *enter* then file

Do them in the order of the guide. The second one i merely replaced everything with the same name with what was in the files after i unpacked farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe, and added everthing that wasn't there already. If that makes sense.

@ascarytiger: make sure you have a space before /a.

How can you say Doom3's story was better than Farcrys?
Doom 3 had the happenings at the Mars base, UAC research, the demonic invasion and the ancient civilisation. The PDAs and character conversations actually had a very detailed story.

Far Cry had mutant monkeys created by a mad scientist.

In lieu of that, has anyone tried out Matto's mods? I finished Matto3 the other day... pretty cool stuff. Can't wait for Matto4, if the preview screenshots are anything to go by.

They just had the sense to set an FPS on a tropical island.

Read what I said. Both stories suck, just FC's is even more pathetic than D3's. In D3, you could at least follow a story by reading PDA's, emails, voice mails etc. Nothing exciting, but more than FC has to offer.

FC's story is crap, a 5 year old kid could come up with something better. And same is true to some extend for D3, but D3's story wasnt nearly as pathetic as FC's story. CryTek just took all the elements we've seen in all kinds of shooters and tossed it together.

And as for the AI in FC, I never understood why people think it was good. It is actually bugged to no end, even in the latest version enemies sometimes just stop shooting you, run into trees or rocks and get stuck...

And finally the gameplay I've seen a dozen times already, nothing new there. At least Doom3 can actually be scary, thats a quality FC never has at no point.

This all might sound harsh, yet I bought FC the day it came out. And as I said, the graphic engine was ahead of its time. Months before D3 and HL2 came out, we saw a game like no other and I'm confident CryTek will come up with a killer engine when they're done with CryEngine2. Thankfully, it will not be used in FarCry 2 - at least not in the first game. :)

Griswold has clearly never played catacombs or research by himself with the lights off and the surround sound cranked up ;)

While the storyline and cut scenes are not the best in the world i find it great fun, something i never found about d3. A child could have come up with the level design in d3, and gameplay style- shoot, turn around and wait for things to spawn behind you in a cramped corridor or room, shoot, turn around and wait for things to spawn behind you in a cramped corridor or room, repeat ad nauseam. All the little pda's in the world can't save that and make it fun after a while (imo at least).

Farcry has massively varied level design and very different playing styles (from cramped corridors and indoors stuff like catcombs, to unbelievably vast outdoor areas (pier, research), from fighting on foot to in vehicles and boats...plus it looks stunning and makes full use of the CryEngine...

Farcry was the sleeper hit, and even d3's own greatest fans would be hard pushed to admit that d3 lived up to it's hype. It did nothing to expand or advance the FPS genre imo...
