Farcry with the Extended Content Upgrade running on my 32-bit Rig=stunningly beautiful :)

The extended content upgrade adds offset bumpmapping, some better textures, vastly longer draw distance, more insects/animals/birds and more vegitation afaik. (Very little performance hit on my 6600GT, 2xAA/4xAF at 1024, everything very high except water is on ultra).

The offset bump mapping is sweet, but it's the lusher vegitation and the massively increased draw distance that make it even more gorgeously jaw-dropping 😉

Quite a few pics but they're all resized to they're reasonably small.

Screenshots taken at the start of Pier, mid-way through Fort and the start of River.

These ones are all indoors towards the end of the game, they look hawt too (but pre-ECU, although i don't think that changes much inside).

Enjoy

Catacombs is supposed to be very impressive indeed with the offset bump mapping, but i haven't had time to check it out. Later ;

If anyone want's some more details on how to install the ECU packs on a 32-bit copy of XP i'd be happy to post a guide and the collection of links i used.

One last thing, the only blight on the game is the incredibly nasty, blocky, badly rendered dynamic shadows on your gun/wrists on nvidia cards :|

Links to the update patches here: http://www.farcry.ubi.com/

at the bottom.

It's two packs and the links are on the farcry homepage, almost a gb.

farcry_amd64_ecu and farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk are their names.

lol, yeah i finally bit the bullet and went for it the other day. I'll work on a proper guide but for starters you d/l the packs, then follow the advice here;
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?threadid=141616

Detailed procedure:

Installation of the Patch 1.32:
copy farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe to your C root drive
open a command prompt window
run cmd
type cd c:
and
type: farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe /a and press enter
follow the wizard and extract on a new folder C:\AMD64UPGRADE

The unpacked files should have this structure:

C:\AMD64UPGRADE
PROGRAM FILES
UBISOFT
CRYTEK
FAR CRY
-BIN64
-FCDATA
-LANGUAGES
-LEVELS
-SHADERS
-SUPPORT

Now copy the folders
-FCDATA
-LANGUAGES
-LEVELS
-SHADERS
in your FC install folder overwriting and following the structure of the original directories.

For the Enhanced Content Patch:
copy farcry_amd64_ecu.exe to your C root drive

open a command prompt window
run cmd
type cd c:
and
type: farcry_amd64_ecu.exe /a and press enter
follow the wizard and extract on a new folder C:\AMD64ECU

The unpacked files should have this structure:

C:\AMD64ECU
PROGRAM FILES
UBISOFT
CRYTEK
FAR CRY
-FCDATA
-LEVELS
-SUPPORT

Now copy the folders
-FCDATA
-LEVELS
overwriting the same folders in your FC install folder following the structure of the original directories.

But this didn't work for me. I did the first bit fine with farcry_amd64_ecu.exe pack, but for the other pack i manually replaced what was different between the files from farcry_amd64_ecu.exe and what i had after completing the first stage. Works perfectly now, even with all my save games, and i was patched to 1.33 before, no dramas.

Thats a really rough guide but hope it helps mate 😉

lol, shadow problems are all still there 😛🙁

I would love to see it maxed out on a x1800XT/7800GT SLI/7800GTX SLI/7800GTX 512mb SLI setup 😉

I'm a fan of the CryEngine and the artists who created the outdoor locations, but gameplay and story wise, Farcry was junk. Much moreso than Doom3 in fact. But hey, it was their first game and I'm sure they learn from their mistakes. 🙂

How can you say Doom3's story was better than Farcrys?

I have to agree woth you ackmed. Farcry's was just as believable, 777ty billion times more fun, and had a hawt chick 😉

imo of course 😉

But I was talking about the story, in which he says he likes Doom3's better. I just dont understand why.. and was asking him why. Its the same story from forever ago.

Hi, this might sound stupid but i'l say it anyway, My system spec's are at the bottom of this.

I just want to know if it is really needed for me to do all of the above just to patch Far cry to ver 1.3 or is they an easier way, like can't i just download this patch...

The name of the patch is called: Wednesday 08.10.2005 Patch 1.33 Available

Here's a link to it:http://www.farcry.ubi.com/

2nd from the top.

Hey if i am wrong, then well i learnt somthing new.

sure, everything looks beautiful on a pristine tropical island. its just that most FPS games are in ugly looking places, like FEAR.
