Hello , I bought a copy of Farcry today and tried to run it on my relatively new computer.
Specs:
Pentium 4 2.6ghz 800mhz FSB
MSI Neo 2
1024mb RAM DDR
Ati All -in- Wonder Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
Soundblaster Audigy 2
SATA seagate 120gb hdd
All drivers are up-to-date including Directx 9, Windows XP Pro service pack 1
Every other game I have installed runs very well, (thief 3, Splinter Cell 2, BF1942 etc) at MAX detail.
I hear on these forums that most of you with similar or lesser system specifications are able to run the game flawlessly at max settings. Well, for me it seems impossible to believe those words based on how it runs on my computer.
When I put my resolution at 1600x1200 32bit, max settings except shadows , my fps is roughly in the 30s in small , enclosed areas(yes, even here its bad). But as soon as I encounter open landscapes , or look in a certain direction that
consists of dense textures , ie: that "beach" area as soon as you exit from the bunker in the training missions, the game is unplayably slow. I'm guessin its not even breakin 10FPS. It's literally a slideshow.
Even when I lower settings to 1280X1024 32bit, textures medium, everything else high except shadows,
The game remains unplayable when witnessing the above. Surely theres got to be something wrong with my configuration and not the game. (I hope.)
Also , there is something that has been bothering me for a while now as such perhaps it may be related to my current problem. Its odd that both my motherboard and videocard supports up to 8X AGP acceleration. However, it boggles me when the windows display panel does NOT allow me to check the box that enables 8X acceleration..it is grayed out. INstallation of previous versions of videocard drivers as well as motherboard drivers did nothing to remedy the situation. Also , strangely enough, I can find nowhere in CMOS to change AGP speed... Although the hardware is compatible with 8X acceleration.
I would like to know if anyone know's how to remedy the problems I have listed, if that's possible.
Thanks everyone for your time and advice.
