Hello everyone,

I have been playing Farcry 2 now for a while, and it seems after an hour of gameplay it randomly exits the game. I noticed before it exits i start seeing some graphical glitches.
So from what i see it seems like my GPU is overheating!! Right!!! When i am in the game i minimize the screen and check out my temp in CCC and it says 58 c with 99% gpu activity ( that doesn't seem to hot!! my old 8800 Gt 256 would get hotter @ full load). When gpu is at idle is registers @ 31 c. I have Three 120mm Case fans on my removable door, blowing directly on my videocard and cpu. I also loaded the new 1.01 patch too. People have any ideas?? see my specs below.

Great game by the way...

Is the 8800GT / 3870OC dirty & clogged with dust? Spray it out with some duster canned air.

Read the temps with gpu-z 2.8, it will monitor it live & log it in a graph, so when you alt tab out, you can see what the temps were in a heavily detailed gpu intensive scene played just seconds prior.

Also could need new graphics drivers with FC2- try the 180.43 NV betas or the ver. 8.551 CCC 8.11 hotfix. OTOH, it may just be FC2 or vista causing the issues.

is the cpu/mem/mobo overclock stable enough for prime/ occt??

i will have to downlaod that Gpu-z program. I have the 8.10 cats with the hotfix driver for FC 2. My CPU and Mem overclock is very stable. I can play Crysis with everything maxed without AA for a couple hours and it never locks up! so it's kind of wierd that this is going on with FC 2. The 3870 is not clogged with Dust..

the 3870 is an factory oc. Only the core is bumped up 25mhz 800 vs 775 and the memory is the same as stock. I will try it out though. Thanks

It looks a lot like this first one (GPU). So when i get home later today i will try downclocking the Core speed to 775--- or 750

OP,

It was doing this to me as well for two days. I had graphical glitches and it would kick me. Even sometimes would reboot my computer. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and its been fine ever since. Worth a shot I guess.

I kept my saved games though

EDIT: Saved games are kept in C:/Documents and Settings \user\My games\Far Cry 2\Saved Games

I just re-installed the game and the same thing happens after an hour of playing. This time there seems to be no graphical glitches. The game plays great and then all of the sudden it boots me back out to windows. I aslo just installed The new 8.11 Drivers, still same thing after playing for an hour?? My video card never gets over 60 C according to GPU-Z

You know, I just realized after I read your post. When I was having the same problem, I was using a HIS HD3870. Once I reinstalled the game, I was using a 9800GTX.

Now I am no where near saying it is the 3870 doing it, but it does seem odd. And I was as well using Cat 8.11's.

I have started keeping tabs on the temps of the vram on my 4850s and my 4870 and when that number gets above 70 I notice more instability so even though my gpu temps never go above 65ish at load the vram slowly creeps up to the 70s in long play sessions. Download atitray tools and check it out. Now I am able to see all this data on my second monitor or my G15 keyboard as well since you can make a custom data flow on the small lcd there, I use gpu temp, gpu vram temp, gpu utilization, cpu temp, cpu utilization and mtb temps and all that info is there on that nifty little screen.

Back off your vram speeds a tad and see if that clears things up, isolate rinse repeat is my mantra!

The game really gets better as you get new weapons. Up until I bought the AR-16 I was really annoyed, that gun makes everything more fun.

Then again, I was playing without a reticle, and the assault scope on the AR-16 made a big difference from just using sights on the AK etc.

My 4850 does the same thing in this game, I get GPU recovery errors like it's over heating. I think it's the drivers or just the 3870 and 4850 series

My card is idle at 40c so i don't understand it :(

Seems like this game is hard on the Shaders in your GPU...

I had shaders oc'd to 1512 and had to back that down to 1460 because it would kick me out of the game drivers stopped working etc...

After backing them down the game works flawlessly.

Its really hard to say what the problem is. I have the shaders on my 9800GTX at 1800 and it runs flawless.

I had to tune down my standard overclock in COD4 and DOOM III. Farcry2 will crash, while cod4 and others work just fine.

cod4 core/shader/mem works fine at 600/1200/790, FC2 only works at 579/1156/681

Well i haven't had a chance to play the game for an hour yet. But i did get the 9800 GTX, Man i am very dissapointed. It is not much faster than the 3870? I dont know why it plays Farcry 2 the same and the average framerate on the benchmark went up 2 FPS!! thats weak.. The image quality in the game is not as good. Maybe i got a bunk card. I ran 3dMark 06 with my 3870 and got 10600 with the 9800 GTX it went to 11600. My overclocked 8800GT 256 ran 11800!! I downloaded the newest drivers and erased the old ATI drivers, i am very dissapointed, good thing i didn't spend much, i traded my 3870 and 50 bucks for the EVGA 9800 GTX... (anybody know why this card is not impressive) And yes Farcry 2 is an awesome game..

When I went from the HD3870 to the 9800GTX, it was a big difference in fps. I have a feeling it is your cpu holding the card back. With my cpu overclocked to 2.8, My score in 3DMark06 is 13582. With the HD3870 my fps in Far Cry 2 were 19 average, after I installed the GTX, they are now an average of 40.

And to me, I believe the IQ in my games is a little better with the GTX than they were with the HD3870.

well @ 1440X900 with everything maxed and no AA my 3870 Avg Frame rate was 32
With the 9800 GTX its 35 with the same settings.

I don't feel like my CPU is holding me back my E2180 @ 3.2 GHz should be close to your 7200 @ 2.8 GHz if not the same.
My card looks different than the other Evga cards it;s the same model number as this card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814130339

But it looks like this Zogis card without the the z on the fan, it says Evga on the center of the fan.
