Hey All
Good frigg'n grief!! I'm at the point where I am about to exit some caves (I think) anyway, the auto saves are far apart to the point where I am greatly aggravated especially after battleing all of the soldiers and monsters <sigh>

The game would be much, much better if there would be at least the ability to manually save a couple of times at least in the very hard levels and let me tell ya they do get hard!!

Agreed....
This is what you need tp do:

\save_game

\load_game

It's a bit glitchy, but does the trick.

That's one of my pet peeves with games. I can't stand it when I can't save whenever I feel like. My life doesn't revolve around the game I'm playing and alot of times I end up just exiting some games and redoing some of it later. I'm currently playing Jedi Acadamy now and I can save it to my heart's content :)

you can just bind a key to the command "\save_game 01"

I am 90% done with the game.

I run out of patience. Looking back over the years, the games i did NOT finish lacked "saving graces". ;)

There are SO MANY good games that DO have 'anytime' saves, i simply won't bother with the good ones that lack 'em. ;)

Thats what I love about Medal of Honor and C&C renegade... I'll end up saving every few seconds (unconsciously) when I get into the game...

It could be worse... it could have the H&D2 save system, i.e. none.

I like it, it makes the atmosphere more tense and the stakes final. :) I think they should add quick saves for the easy difficulty levels only. The checkpoint system is fine for the hard settings.

Me too!! and I probably do use it way to much since its there, but Far Cry is absolutely dumbfounding at times with the lack of saves or even the auto save being so far from a hot spot.

I am at a point now where I am trying to make it to the outside and man-o-man is it hot in there. Theres soldiers everywhere and monsters everywhere and then theres the soldiers and the monsters fighting each other...and then I turn a corner and BAM it's now ON!! heavy fighting and I am already at
zero armour and maybe about 20% health...

Heres what really dissed me, I finally defeat all of those baddies and I even have about 45% health left so as I am approching a door it automatically opens up and BAM one of those leaping monsters appears right in front of me and then the frigg'n auto-save comes on!!!!!!!!!!

And of course I'm toast in about 1second...<bah>

P.S. I actually liked the way SOF-2 did their saves, what they did was while setting up the game you can select to save 3-5 times a mission, way cool. And that way you still get to be very cautious and enjoy the gameplay...

Later CA

What sux about being able to save whenever you want is when you are so far ahead and you forget to save you end up getting killed and have to do it all over. For some reason the feeling of expecting to have to do it all over again is much better and results in less cuss words and broken things.

There was me assuming you were being sarcastic abut not buying a game for some utterly trivial reason like not having a quicksave.

Quicksave button almost certainly the worst thing in PC gaming, IMO. The autosaves are like a minute apart and well placed...

Nice to know . . . maybe byTHEN I will have UPgraded myRadeon 8500 so I can (doubly) enjoy the game.

And to those who think quick save is a "crutch": :p
(some of us aren't really that "serious" about games)

I've always preferred the quicksave... the reason why is because in MANY games, you're forced to go back the same route and do the same exact thing (i.e. go down the hall, shoot camping bad guy, get key, backtrack to locked door, use key, enter room with crazy gunfight, die, repeat). No fun in repeating that over and over again.

But, in FC, when you reload from your last checpoint, it ain't the same. Bad guys do things differently. They're not on timers. There were some indoor parts where Mercs were fighting beasts and I was like "I'm gonna hang out back here and let you guys settle your differences." Well, the Mercs won and I methodically moved in to finish them off. I got whacked by a Merc up high that I didn't know about. The checkpt reloaded and I again hung back and waited til the shooting was over, then moved in to take out the remaining Mercs. To my surprise, I was ambushed by 3 Trigens.

The checkpoint saves allow you to try out different tactics and get the feeling you've replayed the game without walking down the required path over and over again.

Even though a patch appears to be on the horizon, I still feel that the checkpoint saves are one of the benefits of the game, rather than a hinderance (although I didn't feel that way to begin with).

I probably saved every 10 seconds with Max Payne.

Yea when I can save anytime I abuse the hell out of it. Then the game is over REALLY fast.

There are pros and cons =/
I donno about you but I wanna just watch the movie . . . shhhh. :p

rolleye.gif

The fastER you finish the game the sooner you are on to the next one . . . I don't wanna REplay the same part over and over just like I don't like to watch (parts of) a movie over and over. A game SHOULD have the OPTION to save whenever - it's up to you to "abuse" it or not. ;)

The FEATURE I'd (really) like to see is your ENTIRE game (minus player deaths and restarts) REplayed just like a movie . . . ;)

Thanks for the excuses, but I'll wait for the patch and NV40 (I bet ATI aint gonna offer much this year).

I prefer this system of checkpoints/autosaves. It adds some interest to the game for me.
The thing is that I always play my FPS at the hardest level, and this in combination with the autosaves is tough.
But I like it this way.

I really Do understand that (mostly) the younger gamers like a tougher challenge than (us) old(er) gamers.

Since I have been young for a very (very) long time, I have become really IMpatient (and usually busy with something else - usually work-related), ALL I WANT is the OPTION to save ANYtime; it shouldn't be TOO difficult for a programmer to have BOTH checkpoints AND anytime saves available.

I really AM looking forward to UPgrading to NV40 so I can actually ENjoy some of the newest titles . . . next month, eh?

:)
