I've been using the AG36 rifle thus far, but I guess the OICW is very similar except for the trajectory of the explosive ammo, right?

Now does anyone recall that night time level, "Rebellion" where there are several paths to the Archives? One path is via handglider, where you could take a detour to a small island to get an OICW earlier in the game. Here's an excerpt from a guide:

As you grab the glider, immediately turn to the left. Look below you to see a path that
leads to a broken bridge. If you see that, you?re on the right track. Exactly
ahead of you, you should see a lighthouse on a lonely island with a fox lift
leading from it. That?s your destination. You should just barely be able to
reach it. Quickly grab your P90 and blast the lonely trigen on this island
running towards you. Head up to the lighthouse to see the OICW Advanced
Assault Rifle. It also has a grenade launcher and a 4x zoom. Cool. Head back
to the Fox lift and take it across back to the mainland.

Problem is, I got there only to find an AG36 rifle lying on a crate just outside the lighthouse. Going up the lighthouse reveals nothing. I'm already using an AG36.

I'm playing patch v1.3, though I cannot find anything in the changelog that explains the above.

Hmm, I just found it kinda funny since way before that level many soldiers were already packing AG36 rifles. I thought maybe this guy was playing an older build of FC where the M4 was the only assault rifle till that point. Perhaps that "hidden island" thingy was part of that earlier FC build.

nyhow WTH I'm going ahead now to kick some cloaked trigen ass...

You're using a guide to play FC :(. The only entertainment that game has is figuring out unique ways to complete levels. Thats it. Using a guide is like having a bot play chess while you watch.

Some have the patience and time to never use guides, some use them selectively, some follow them A-Z. And some even - shock, horror - cheat. To each their own...

Some "secrets" cannot be found without tips from the developers. ;)

i can't even begin to imagine the insane amount of time one would need - for example - to find all the secret areas (and "impossible" jumps) in PainKiller. :p

i haven't played FC (yet) but i generally DO read game walkthroughs - after i complete (or nearly complete) a level - doesn't spoil a thing for me . . . . some of us do other things besides game. :p
