I bought myself a shiney new leadtek 6800gt after months of research and all my games run great apart from far cry which runs terrible. Some indor areas are ok but the outdoor areas running @ 1280 x 1024 32bit with 4x FSAA and 8x AF on very high run awful ( 35 avg, 25 lowest). I have also turned off Anti aliasing and AF, only by using medium settings am i able to reach the same speeds my 9800 pro achived at medium. This is not a cpu bottleneck issue my other games are fine and from searching google people have lower spec cpus and are able to get better results. I am using stock speeds with the latest drivers 71.89.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so did you find a way to resolve? I want to try holding off formatting for a few days at least as i have other things to sort out.

Yup, the update should help. You should be able to get 16x12 with maybe a little aa/af.

Its give it maybe a few more fps. Thanks for the advice however its still not that great. Im getting 50 - 25 fps on river (lowest been on the floaty bridge part of the map) Im thinking it maybe cpu after all however i was expecting a bit more from this game with the new card.

Thanks again.

My specs are the same as in my sig apart from the graphics and yes im running it on a 2600+ and im starting to.. well im pretty confident now its the cpu thats the bottleneck here.

333quid can by me a neo 2 + venice 3000 + some 4400 corsair ram would be ideal dont you think? not to mention the headroom for overclocking with the ram.

There you go.
'
Thats your problem

Have you used driver cleaner to remove the prevous ati drivers?????

Just to let you know, my old oced 2500+ barton @ 2.4 ghz was a bottle neck for my Ultra.

That Tbred which is slower than the barton at only 2 ghz will be a huge bottle neck for that card.

I used driver cleaner in safe mode. Also the Tbred is clocked at 2.33ghz not the standard 2.0.

Hl2, SCCT & Red orchestra have significant improvements so im guessing its the cpu.

I don't think it's a CPU bottleneck.

Why? Because I've a 6800GT and played at the following:

(1) CPU @ FSB 166, multi "11" (1.8ghz), ram timings @ 3-3-3-8, and

(2) CPU @ FSB 215, multi "11" (2.3+ghz), ram at 2-3-3-11

In playing Far Cry, D3 and Painkiller I was hard pressed to see a difference. In fact, I was accidently playing these games with the slower cpu/ram settings and didn't notice. Aquamark and 3Dmark05 only showed a small drop in scores, which I mostly attribute to the "CPU test" portions of those tests.

IMHO, CPU "bottlenecking" is given way too much importance in these forums when it comes to actual gaming (not benching)

I say bullshit..

@ 1600x1200 you offload almost ALL the work to the GPU..

I had a AthlonXP @ 2.4 before this A64 and it kicked ASS in Doom 3/HL2/Farcry..

CPU is doing a ton of work, and I don't share your enthusiasm for the AXP and FarCry, HL2, and the like. UT2004, going from a 2 ghz barton to a 2.2 ghz A64 DOUBLED the from rates on a 5900U 1024*768 from around 55 to 110 on my favorite CTF map... Citadel Classic? Think that is it. Playing Painkiller on my AXP to A64 was night and day, HATED the stutters that I got when I popped open a box and the coins started bouncing... roomy playing HL2 had periodic pauses in heavy battle scenes w/6800GT and 1 gig HyperX with Barton 3200+... all these are CPU related. I was able to crank out FarCry with my 6800 and 3400+ and get better frames than that, so buy the A64 and enjoy...the huge differnce in games between the A64 and the AXP is very well documented here in the video tests on anandtech.

My $.02!
