Will a 9800pro 128MB be able to handle farcry at its highest details n resolution?

as long as the rest of your computer is good, you should be able to run on high detail

i run on medium detail with a 4200
athlon 2500 @ 2 Ghz

The rest of the system speed is also important in game frame rates.
A 9800Pro will do no good in a Duron system.

Not a chance. It can run the game at settings that are considerably better looking then any other game out, but a R9800Pro is not close to having the power of being able to crank everything up and run the game at cranked resolution. With everything set to VeryHigh I run 800x600 to avoid sub 30FPS framerates on a R9800Pro(that's without AA or AF). Mind you, this game running at those settings is hands down the best I've seen out, and by a sizeable margin, but it will take a NV40/R420 or better to be able to crank everything all the way up.

actually, the only thing you need to crank down is the lights. turn them to low, and everything else can be on high and your frame rates will dobule. i was getting over 150fps at lower resolutions.

In my rig it runs everything on very high except texture filtering (medium) and no slowdowns here. It might be the A64 and 1gb ram

Actually, I have P4 2.4 Gig Dell with 768 RDRAM, and Radeon 9800 Pro. I run Far Cry at 1024x768 with everything on High. I get a consistent 30+ FPS.

See BenSkywalker, it's clear that everyone can run this game with a good setup like yours. What I think is that you are a sucker for "smooth as butter" gaming and you run in fear of anything below 60FPS I respect that because we all have our own preferences. However I do not consider Far Cry a fast person shooter like unreal is. It is an adventure-action oriented FPS where you explore the environment and play slowly so 30FPS is plenty for this game in my opinion. It even gives you the chance to check out the beautiful environments because the game is not fast paced at all.

how do you get double the fps i get when my machines clocked at 3.5ghz? i only get ~30 at 1600x1200 with everything maxxed out.

I'm running at 1152x864 with everything set to Very High (no FSAA or Aniso). Any higher, then the performance dips below what I consider acceptable for me. This is with my fastest machine (see Box #1 of my specs).

yes a 9800 pro will do it fine. my 9600 pro with 1GB of ram and athlon xp 2400 run the game at 1024X768 at everything set to the absolute max. Of course i have aa/af off, but i never go below 30fps in even the most big or action packed areas.

the "lights" is what turns on ps2 shaders....

It run fine with everything turned to max 1280x1024 4xAF no AA in SP, but in MP you'll have to set details lower.

I'm running it with a 9800pro on a 2100+@2600+ 1GB ram.
