Far Cry Looks Better Running on My 9800 SE!!!???

I have two systems: One with a 9800SE and the otherone with an 6800GT @ 400/1100. The problem is that I have all my settings on high on the 6800 and the whites are too bright and the water looks like crap. In fact, it looks better running on the 9800SE with the graphics at medium? What's the deal? I have all of the settings on very high, it runs smooth as butter, but the graphics look funky. Better yet, I ran 3DMark03 and scored 12400 so everything is fine with the card even though it's OC'ed to an Ultra (although I keep crashing in 3DMark01).

I want the reflective water in Far Cry, how do I get that. Is there something I'm setting up wrong? I have everything set to very high.

Sounds like you are running the v1.3 patch, no? If so, then play around with the HDF settings. Apparently, 7 is the most visually appealing. I have been too preoccupied with replaying HL2 to mess around with FC lately.

How does it sound like hes running 1.3 patch?
Lemme ask the OP instead of guessing. MrControversial, did you install the 1.3 patch for FarCry? It is a fix for 6800 and other series nvidia cards.

What he meant was HDR and its only avail as beta for nvidia only in 1.3 patch, but yes i dont see why he assumed he is on this patch he neve mentioned it, the nivida will show farcry of nicer then ati due to dx9c and p.s 3.0 in that 1.3 patched build but water should look ok on non patched, but please patch game as it fixed lots of bugs.

MrControversial, can you post a screenshot so we can see what you're talking about? It's possible that your overclock is screwing it up, especially if it causes 3DM2k1 to crash.

I will post when I get a chance. For the record, I'm not on any patch. The game looks normal except for the water. It doesn't have that shiny effect like on my 9800SE. I put all graphics up to very high and I still get this.

So DirectXc won't work on 2001? I'm just using '01 for a comparison. I get through two or three tests before the whole thing crashes.

No, it should work. It just doesn't use any of the SM3.0 features in 3DMark01/03.

Your computer should not crash running games or benchmarks. Un-overclock everything and check your drivers.

2001se and 2003 will run on nvidia dx9c card but you get high readings you cant fairly compair to your older cards say, and it wont put card under same load as 2005 will, if someone wanted to say inflate a score, they could force dx8.1 or install original XP on pc and then run 2001se with new nvida card and score would be mad high, more then having dx9c and running 2001se.

Same for say my old G4 TI 4600, lets imagine i o/c it to 600/1200 lol, it would still score badly in 2003 and 2005 as its a dx8.1 card only.

Okay. I don't want to underclock the CPU/GPU because 2001 is the only thing that crashes. I mean I can run '03 and '05 fine without any crashes.

If it causes it to crash, it's NOT STABLE.
