Okay, so I've started playing Far Cry... and it's bringing my 6600GT to its knees. I'm not planning to upgrade to a PCI-e anytime soon, so what's the best card. I want to be able to play at 1600x, no AA, and very high settings. Is the AGP x850XTPE good, or a bit overkill? What other cards could handle my requirements?

X850XTPE will suit your needs, of course I own a x850xt non pe ;) (hehehehe). Anyways, first take a look on an article @ Tomshardware.com on the variety of AGP cards that are available atm

I have 17inch LCD...so i'm ok :)

Well, what's your other specs? I'm afraid my 2.6ghz P4 might bottleneck.

Only 6000 3DM05 with the x850?? Hmm... well I guess that's good. Well, I guess your system is close enough to mine otherwise.

The video card upgrade would be considerably better for getting an increase in performance.

Well I played that game at 1680x1050 (close enough to 1600x1200) with my 6800GT with all very high settings (no AA, but I think some AF, I forget), and it worked perfectly, never below about 40 FPS if I recall correctly.

I think that the cheapest cards that can handle the game at those settings would be the X800XL and the 6800GS (the X800XL matches/beats my 6800GT in FarCry, and the 6800GS is close enough to not make a big difference).

I run FarCry at the same settings on my 6800GT (1680x1050, no AA because it's too slow), and framerates are very acceptable - I don't think I ever really see below 35-40fps either, and it's usually closer to 60 (at least in the MP maps I play frequently).

FarCry ran great on my X850XT PE. I played at 1680x1050 4AA/16AF all details maxed. It was definetely faster in that game than my 6800GT.

Hmm... well right now I'm waiting for BF and see if there's any good x850xtpe deals... if not I'll just go down to a 6800GS or x800xl or something like that.

:)

Also, how much would a 6600GT AGP sell for? I've overclocked a lot and whatnot...
