What is up with far cry and anti aliasing... my fps goes to crap.
without aa at 1600x1200, everything on very high, im getting 70-100 fps.
with even 4aa im slowed to 25-40 fps.... what the hell is that.

AND This is with an ati x1800 xt!!

Is this an issue with far cry?

That depends, do you have HDR + AA on? If so, that would be about right for such a resolution, I think.

Is not normal, you should check if HDR is enabled, if it is not enabled, it could be probably system limited, ie RAM, CPU etc, or try to use DriverCleaner and uninstall all the drivers/settings. Even a Radeon X800 XT can run faster at those resolutions.

HDR doesnt work with AA on the x1800s... there's a yet to be released patch needed for that. Big crock of bull feature if u ask me, shouldnt need a patch.

Why would it not need a patch? MSAA is not some magic switch you just flip and it works, when it's enabled within the game code the devs have to explicitly code for it. Likewise, if they did not originally code for MSAA with HDR, then it wouldnt work either.

Well, you could always try the beta patch, been using it for a while with no problems in regards to HDR + AA so I don't know why they don't just release it as official.

ok...no hdr. just regular settings. very strange stuff going on with AA...

I saved an outdoor area with lots of foliage. with 4AA on, i got a pitiful 35fps just standing there. i then changed to no AA, loaded same spot in game.. i got 100fps!!
Something is not right. i thought the x1800xt was supposed to give close to same performance with AA on as not??

anyone else have trouble with AA, far cry and the xt? what else could cause this...

well...discovered something....

i unchecked adaptive anti aliasing, in ccc settings... when in the same load spot mentioned above... my fps went from 35 to 73!! this is with 6x AA selected in game. im still not getting 100+ fps in game that i believe i should be getting, but, its a start. maybe something else im overlooking in ccc settings. why the hell would ati use something soooo terrible for framerates...

The adaptive AA setting forces SSAA in alpha texturing situations. This is why your performance tanks when you're near foliage.

Because nVidia offers both transparency AA and also SSAA.
