Far Cry 64 bit starts to run and immediately closes...

I've been trying to get the 64 bit Far Cry to work on my Gateway laptop (AMD 3400+, 1GB RAM, ATI 9600/9700 mobile), and it's not working at all.

I got the 32 bit installed, then ran the 64 bit .exe and the ecu package for extra material, but neither the 32 or 64 apps will run. They start, and the teaser screen appears, but then instantly flashes and closes with no error message whatsoever.

I have a hunch its a driver issue, but I couldn't find any 64 bit drivers from ATI for my system.

Has anyone had the same experience, or does anyone know where to get the drivers for x64 that should fix this.

I'm running the 180 day trial version of XP64 right now, and so far have only run these updates:

AMDCON.exe - AMD Athlon? 64/Sempron?/Turion? 64/Opteron? Processor Driver Version 1.2.2.0

and

WindowsXP-KB898715-x64-enu.exe - Windows Installer Update

Thanks...

Well, I fixed the driver issue, and in case anyone has had similar problems, here's what happened:

The system i'm referring to is a Gateway notebook (Athlon 3400+, 1GB SODIMM ram), but thats not important. The problem is that I couldn't install the ATI Catalyst drivers because this runs a 9600/9700 mobile VPU.0. If anyone has tried to run Catalyst (which is an amazing driver/display utility) on a notebook with mobile graphics, they have probably had this same problem. The install seems to run okay, except for one or two error messages like "file copy unsuccessful" or "Thunk.exe, .INF file is missing". The .inf file in the driver package contains a list of ATI cards and information about them; the "mobility solutions" are not included.

To fix this problem, you must install the driver, edit the .inf file, and ask windows to update the driver from that file (through Device Manager), or you can check out DriverHeaven.net for a modified installer file.
