Does anyone know if Far Cry 5 will use a new engine? because 3.4 and Primal were all very single thread performance based with diminishing fps due to CPU limitations per title

Don't think it was ever mentioned, but it seems that it still might be the Dunia engine that has been used since FC3, with the usual tweaks. Unless someone come out and states it thats what the rumors are

I never got around to getting a 144hz monitor. My buddy claims the frame rate is "silky smooth" but I'm perfectly happy with my "buttery smooth" gameplay at 60hz.

Fallout 4 cant go any higher than 60 frames per second and so long as it stays at 60 frames per second, it looks freakin fine.

And you are perfectly fine with all those small objects shooting around when you touch them and killing you when they bounce back?

Yeah, bullshit. I dont think so.

Yeah didn't Skyrim have issues when you uncapped the framerate too? I think that engine Bethesda uses needs real work still.

I can't see FC5 using a much different engine than the previous few games, but then again it looks like the game world may be pretty diverse and with a lot of NPC and effects on-screen at once. Hopefully we get official DX12 with this one though, that'd rule.

Is primal worth playing? Looked kind of ridiculous to me.

Only partially. You see the physics are all capped to 60fps because if you uncap that, you get errors and weird stuff. That's why it didn't work when you uncapped the frame rate initially since it was all tied together. What they did was to lock all the physics to 60fps and everything else can go as far as you want. If you turn vsync off and uncap in the ini files you can run at the speed of light and NPCs will float around oddly when they are hit and other glitches. Use vsync and don't touch the ini files and you can run 120 or 144hz all you want. I've seen reports of lip sync issues at times but this may have been fixed too since it's been over a year.

Skyrim is still unable to go past 60fps. I think when I ran no vsync before I had to lock the fps to 70 or something, been a long time.

Doubt Ubisoft would put money towards a new engine. It's a pretty steep investment, especially for a series that releases a game every few years.

If anything they would just leverage UE4 or CryEngine if they wanted to be more modern, but like you said it's a lot of money and work to convert to a new engine. I'm sure what they have is easy for them to work with and they know pretty well. This cuts down on development time.

The current Far Cry Engine (Dunia) is actually a fork of CryEngine.
