Just a quick note to everyone who likes Far Cry 4, but didn't pick up this DLC. I bought the Season Pass for a heavy discount, and played through the game. At first I didn't even notice "Escape" was a standalone game from main menu, and not integrated into the game.

I'm not pleased with the DLC models of most games. Many times I do not buy any DLC in games, until it ages enough gets cheaper, and has all the content. At that point I'm usually ready to replay a game again. I'm happy to report this is a GREAT piece of content, worthy of purchase now, IMO. I haven't seen much talk about it.

(This is for those unfamiliar with the DLC)
I launched it a few days ago, and it unlocks a third "island". You start at the top of a tower, with all your skills reset back to zero and have nothing but a pistol. You have 30 minutes to complete the mission. Karma events, liberating towns, and other "events" will give you an additional minute. (or a few more for major events)

If you die, you keep your crafting upgrades, your gun(s), and skill upgrades, but the map is completely reset again and you restart at the top of the tower. You have no access to gun lockers. You must find where the good weapons are hidden. It's brutally hard, but a lot of fun! I find myself yelling at the screen a lot, but I'm really loving it!

If you like FC 4 and want more, it's definitely worth a peek! It's not a throwaway, tagged on, 10 minute mission. It's substantial.

You had me until you mentioned it's a timed mission. As someone who enjoys smelling the environmental roses, and sneaking / stealthing around, I absolutely abhor being rushed through a story with a clock. :\

Stealth will not be your friend, not as it was in the main game anyways. However, you'll be exploring for LONG time as you build your equipment up again. You're going to die. A lot, because you're meek as a kitten when you first start. Once I had a bow (my first silenced weapon), things got going a lot better!

I've been stealthing and clearing outposts undetected after learning where all the enemies are. Wait for it to get cheaper and give it a try. I think you'll still like it a lot.

For what it's worth, once you get your equipment together, I don't think the timer will be an issue.

Didn't know this was a thing, I thought the Durgesh sequence was one of the high points of the game. I'll take a look at some point.

One of the high points, and also probably one of the scariest points of the game too, for me personally.

The new DLC sounds pretty interesting, with permadeath and all. I may have to check it out.

I was wondering why far cry 4 downloaded 1.4 GB the other day but I couldn't find anything about a patch release. Perfect timing since I just hit 100% completion in the main story.

I disliked FarCry 3. It was too much 'fetch 5 coconuts'.

Will I like FarCry 4? How about this DLC?

Absolutely not. It is almost exactly like Far Cry 3. Maybe some slight graphical changes. You climb radio towers instead of bell towers to take the fog of war off the map. Most of the weapons are even the same.

Aside from hunting for whatever relic Buck was looking for in FC3 and maybe the monkey statues in FC4 the main quests at least had very little fetching. And even then they were wrapped in some pretty extensive missions. The sidequests are generally formulaic (go to quest area, kill enemy leader/kill animals/kill everything) but they're still fun since the game just plays so well.

Well, I tried to beat the "easy" boat mission at the beginning of the DLC 4 times. As if the distant trucks aren't bad enough, eventually a helicopter comes along to wipe me out. I quit. I won't be renewing my season pass next season.

Holy crap! I'm glad it's not just me. I tried a dozen times and never completed it. Came close once, I think, but I was still very underpowered. (2 health bars, pea shooters...)

I moved on to craft some stuff and do some other missions. The "medium" bases are much easier. I'll have to take another stab at the boat mission now that I'm a bit more seasoned.

There also a mission in the middle of a lake, not too far from where you start that will give you access to buzzers. It's not very hard either.

That boat mission but be labeled "Easy" as a joke...

DLC that actually expands the map and content? That's pretty impressive these days.

It is wildly frustrating.

Indeed. But, in a good way to me. Like I said, I find myself cursing at the screen a lot, but I keep coming back.

I've got all the skills upgraded now, most of the crafting done... I was able finish the boat mission. (Which is still one of the hardest)

I took a stab at the landing zone, and got fairly far, but I didn't complete any of the missions to add any "help", so i eventually got overrun.

I'll probably finish it tomorrow. Not bad getting a weeks worth of play from one DLC! :)

BTW, for anyone who's put off by the timer, I've yet to run out of time, and I sneak through the outposts, disabling alarms and plink off people one by one.

It does keep you coming back. I think the key is to get past the idea that you're going to win. You need to concentrate on crafting, and getting skills. Only after a couple dozen restarts will you hope to actually go to the landing zone and escape.

It's pretty cool, I think by making it timed it was a cheap way to increase the longevity of the content. However the patch 1.7 that came with the DLC, for me, broke the game. It now does not properly triple buffer. Since no one else has mentioned this issue it might be something with my system. But I encourage people to run FRAPS to see if they too are experiencing weird frame rate issues.

My framerate is in the toilet with the patch too. I'm playing on a 780ti on an Asus Swift with G-sync, so it's been totally smooth until this patch. Now things are frequently choppy when I'm driving. I think you're right, they made it choppy and broken to increase the longevity. With so few frames per second it'll take me quite a while to finish.

Are you saying this patch broke your G-sync setup?

For me it does not triple buffer so it goes 30 - 60 - 30 constantly. I suppose you can run with V-sync off with G-Sync.

I finally cleared the landing zone. So, for one DLC, I probably put 20-30 hours and took over week. Not too shabby. More DLC like this!

I think the patch just degraded performance so much that even with g-sync on it stutters noticeably due to low frame rates. There are tons of people on the ubi and steam forums talking about it. Seems particularly noticeable when you're driving.

FWIW, this DLC is probably as big as Blood Dragon was to FC3. :)
