For you old Far Cry fans, I've discovered this graphics update mod just yesterday. I've always love Far Cry, and it's nice to see it get a boost. Interestingly, the dev has also employed the custom water shader used in The Delta Sector mod, which looks stunning! The mod covers (so far) the first three levels in the game (Training, Fort, and River), with better textures, more geometry, denser foliage, effects, and of course the new water shader!

It of course, isn't Crysis, but until that one Far Cry mod for Crysis is ready, this will suit my fancy just nicely! :awe:

One complaint: extremely aggressive LOD management, but still, pretty as hell!

Almost looks like Crysis 1.

Many of the inner-forest shots looks quite similar. I think there was alot of untapped potential for CryEngine 1, especially looking at Far Cry Predator Instincts on the 360, which of course had it's very sexy water shader and full shadowing solution. However, in comparison to FC PC, it still had some issues like weak geometry, draw distance, and physics.

Cryengine 2 and 3 might be just build off of Cryengine 1 so this mod just adds those features retroactivly.

Kinda like with GoldSrc used in Half-Life 1.

weird.. i thought it looked like that before haha..

:p

Haha, my feeling too :)

Of course, it wasn't but... sure looked revolutionary back then. I finished Far Cry three times and I don't think I'll play another playthrough just to see better looking textures though. But I applaud the efforts, it does look very good, it's a good thing for the players out there who wanted to play it again (or even for the first time who knows).

But it's more than textures!!!! :p

Understandable though, I've only completed the game in it's entirety twice, but up through the first half many a time. It's easily the longest FPS I've ever played that comes to mind. If you're a "completus killer" like I am, where you feel you have to go through the whole level and kill every enemy, then the first three levels will take a good 2+ hours, especially when you involve "River".

What I like doing is trying the different maps by taking different routes. You can go up the river; or across land or the path right or the path left and the play style seems very different dependent on the route. Pity none of the crysis games since have had the same level of game play.

Crysis did, at least in the first half of the game, the Relic and Harbor levels to the greatest degree. Of course Far Cry has a good twice as many "levels/maps", and of course their is more variation to them.

I might actually play the first FC now, I got it in a steam package with 2, loaded it up, thought the graphics sucked and exited the game and played FC2.

Dude, you're missing out. FC1 is one of the best FPSs ever. It's the basis of game design for Crysis, and in many ways is just plain more fun.
