Ok... I think for the NHL fantasy hockey dudes, we should have one consolidated thread... we don't want any twisted panties on the non-fantasy sports folks out there so let's do them and the mods all a favour and keep it in here. Besides, someone mentioned it in the other draft thread so here we go.

I need help - I have a draft tonight and I'm looking for resources (ie. cheat sheets) on the internet. Trouble is, everything I am finding requires $. Anyone have any links to some good FREE resources? Basically looking for a text file or something that I can copy / paste or print out with player rankings - if for nothing else just to keep track of who is selected.

Regular season starts next week!!!!!!! :)

Let's start up the fantasy hockey talk!

edit: added links - thanks yllus :)

GoaliePost.com is a great and reliable source for what goalies will be starting the day's game.

TheHockeyNews.com's Fantasy Tools are a nice set of quick links to various point category leaders. I really like their underutilized best duos section which is great for later in the season when your dependable stars get hurt and you need a no-name to help carry you to the finish.

Then of course there's TSN.ca.

Also, if you need a great place to keep track of your pool (not just hockey) - this site is great, I have been using it for years:

Officepools

edit: removed 07/08 in thread title and bumped topic

Sorry for the late response. From experience you get what you pay for on fantasy sports resources.

I wouldn't use anything online if it was free.

What are your thoughts on Selanne? Would he be worth a post-draft free agency pickup, just in case? I was thinking about dropping Michael Ryder to pick him up.

Are there any reliable news on Teemu? There's been some speculation on him and Niedermayer returning around Christmas when the Ducks have enough cap space but who knows.
Ryder hasn't really improved since his rookie year and has sucked this preseason though he will probably still score 50+ pts (which may be more than what Selänne can put up in a half of a season).

Last news I heard on Selanne is this:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/...cks&ctrack=2&cset=true

still not sure one way or another...if he comes back in the first part of the year, he could still score 60-80 pts.

i shoudl note, i dont know where my buddy found some of the people in this league, but dropping Ryder might not hurt too much, as someone else just dropped Mike Modano. This league is almost too low for my level. i may just stick with selanne for now, christ if people keep dropping guys like Modano and there are other quality players, may not hurt me too much.

Just a couple of links for the sake of reference, maybe add them to the first post?

Links added!

Here's my fantasy team from my $100 live draft. We had 11 players this year, down 2 from last year. 1st place pays $900 I think.

1 Spezza J
2 Datsyuk P
3 Gomez S
4 Sedin H
5 Kopitar A
6 Michalek M
7 Shanahan B
8 Langkow D
9 Huselius K
10 Stillman C
11 Horcoff S

I got my Oiler :p

I'm wishing I picked up Stastny again this year - I picked him up really early into his crazy consecutive goal scoring run last year. Hat trick to start off the year!

In goal I've got Brodeur which is great, but Ilya Bryzgalov and Manny Fernandez as my other netminders (I field a team with one D short in favour of the extra goalie). Hopefully they don't screw me too badly. I'll pick up Tim Thomas if I have to just to nail down a starter.

Yeah, Stastny with a sweet hat trick last night. I caught the first two but was asleep for the third...

My goaltending trade isn't looking so hot... I dumped Luongo for Roli & Emery... pretty much banking on Emery getting some starts soon, but Gerber looked good last night in the Ottawa / TO game. He's got the plain helmet going though, and I've said it before - the plain helmet for goalies = upcoming trade to another team! :p

Anyhoo... hopefully trading Luongo doesn't screw me in the end... I know a few guys in the pool think so :p

GO ROLI! :)

Jonathan Bernier is an interesting pickup for those of you whose stable of goalies is weak. He's a 19-year-old who seems to be well on the way to becoming a starter for the LA Kings.

He may however be sent back to the minors in eight games' time, as otherwise this will serve at the first year of his three-year contract. So far he's 1-1 but looks very solid in goal.

Cory Stillman is back and had a 3-pt night last night... get him active in your lineup if you have him, he's going to see a ton of powerplay time! I'm hoping he stays healthy because I have him in my big $ pool!!!!

Mike Ribeiro of the Dallas Stars just got reactivated from the IR and is playing on a line with Morrow and Hagman. He led the Stars with 59 points last season (albeit because Morrow was injured for a lot of it) and has been pretty consistent in putting up 50+ points a season. Keep him in mind as a centre to fall back on as injuries mount.

Mikko Koivu is centring a line of Marian Gaborik and Pavol Demitra, and Demitra is lobbying the press and his team to keep that line together. Koivu's scored at least a point in the last two games.

Carey Price, Montreal's rookie backup for Huet, may contend with the veteran for playing time if Montreal keeps him for 10 games.

Anyone have Craig Rivet, a defenceman with San Jose, on their roster? What's his outlook like? I just picked him up and dropped Brett Clark.

yllus or anyone else into fantasy hockey... help me decide something

i have a chance to drop Milan Michalek and pick up Lupul. it is a one-time only trade... this is in my $100 entry fee pool. here is my team right now - I am in 3rd place (straight-up pts pool):

1 Spezza J Ij ott3 . . . x 13 18
2 Datsyuk P det . . 2 x 16 17
3 Gomez S nyr2 1 5 7 x 10 14
4 Sedin H van . 3 6 15 10
5 Kopitar A la6 2 2 3 16 12
6 Michalek M sj4 . . 1 x 9 10
7 Shanahan B nyr2 2 3 5 x 10 12
8 Langkow D m cgy2 . . . ! 17 14
9 Huselius K cgy2 . 2 2 14 13
10 Stillman C car5 3 7 8 ! 22 14
11 Horcoff S edm4 2 4 5 ! 16 11

I get one trade per month until March - 5 trades total. I like my team and I like Michalek, but basically I have to wager who is going to have more points at the end of the year. Lupul has 16 pts right now and gets 3 minutes more ice time per game... is this a no-brainer? help i'm about to pull the trigger and email the commish to make the deal!!!

edit: and once Michalek is dropped, no one else can have him.

bump

i know there are fantasy hockey guys here because I am in last place in the ATOT hockey pool.

i need more help with my other league. it is the one that costs $100 to get in.

i am in first place right now by 10 pts. my team is listed above with only Michalek being dropped for Lupul.

I have a trade in the bank and 3 more before the end of the year, which I probably won't use.

Lupul hasn't done squat for me since I picked him up.

Here are some of the guys available with more points than Lupy (sorry about the formatting):

20 Campbell B buf def 2 18 27 .74
2 20 Hudler J det fwd 7 13 29 .69
3 20 Sturm M bos fwd 9 11 28 .71
4 19 Lehtinen J dal fwd 6 13 21 .90 Nov 28: sports hernia out indefinitely
5 18 Belanger E min fwd 6 12 29 .62
6 18 Fisher M ott fwd 7 11 28 .64
7 18 Morrison B van fwd 8 10 29 .62
8 18 Murray G bos fwd 9 9 28 .64
9 18 Ranger P tb def 5 13 28 .64
10 18 Reinprecht S pho fwd 7 11 28 .64
11 18 Vrbata R pho fwd 11 7 26 .69

Since this is a straight-up points (g,a) pool, I need to determine if any one of these guys will end up with more points than Lupul at the end of the season. I get all of their points for the season if I make the trade so I won't lose any ground.

any advice?

right now i am considering standing pat with Lupul but Hudler is looking good right about now too.

ok i'm bumping this b/c i would really like some opinions...

Now, Stamkos has picked it up the last couple games and I think I will hang on to him. I can get rid of someone tonight @ midnight, and I'm thinking I might drop Gaborik.... however he is listed as "questionable" for Nov 1st vs. Phoenix. so I don't know what I should do.... there isn't much info on his return / injury status.

Here are the available free agents in my keeper points league sorted by total points so far this year...

Feds plays with red hot Semin ... since the beginning of the year... just FYI. ;)

I would drop Backstrom till he and AO get on track. Coach says Backstrom is still not 100% gameshape since he was hurt early training camp.

at least he's playing though... and getting a bit of PP time.
Feds is definitely on my radar, and so is Holmstrom...
