Fantasy Football ?: Which defense should I get?

Aiight, there's no way I'm starting my Panthers D this week against the Bucs. I also don't feel confident with the Redskins' D hosting the Colts.

On the free agent side, I can choose between the Falcons, Browns, Colts, Ravens and Seahawks (they are ranked in that order amongst the free agents.) I won't pick up the Falcons cuz they are playing the Saints (tough matchup.)

The Browns are playing the Jets which should be easy pickins for their D, except for the fact they are a banged up unit with lots of injuries.

The Colts are at Washington, and right now I'm leaning towards the Colts' D (even though they're not that great--but the Washington offense sucks!) They did get burned by Pittsburgh last week too.

The Ravens are a great unit, but Ray Lewis is still listed as questionable and he really is the star of that D. They are also playing Pittsburgh who, as you know, steamrolled the Colts last week.

And as for the Seahawks, well, what can I say? They generally suck.

What should I do??? I really need the points this week since Ricky Williams/Miami has a bye so my runningbacks are Shaun Alexander and Antowain Smith (underachievers this year, though Alexander had that one awesome game!)

If either Jacksonville (vs. Houston) or Tenessee (vs. Cinci) is still available, I would play them this week

I don't think any of those D's you mentioned are very good this week. With Chad Pennington at the helm at Curtis Martin recently remembering how to run, the Jets are no longer "easy pickins", the falcons play arguably the best offense in the NFL, Pittsburgh suddenly has new life under Maddox, and the colts and seahawks' D is not the greatest.

If I had to pick one though,I probably would go with the Colts since Washington hasn't been looking too good lately.

Whats wrong w/ Panthers D vs Bucs offense? The Bucs offense is pretty weak, and the Panthers D isn't that bad. I honestly don't think the Bucs are going to do very well for teh reast of the season... neither will the Panthers but they lost 3 in a row and I think this will be their bounce back game.

But if you don't want to take the risk, yeah I would go for Colts at Washington.

Jacksonville is available, but here's what the commish says:

"Latest News Updated 10/25/02
The Jaguars' defense is not a good starting option for Week 8. They will face an inconsistent Texans' team, but the Jacksonville defense is decimated by injuries and will have a difficult time producing Fantasy points."

It's the Texans...I think that right there is enough to play Jacksonville, ESPECIALLY if you don't have very good alternatives.

See, what we have here is a conflict of interest. My starting receivers are Peerless Price and Corey Bradford <- Texan! I'm hoping Bradford can take advantage of Jax's problems on D! Ive picked up the Colts right now, but since my league sucks (they're all sleepers) I'm sure I can change my mind later.

BTW my backup receivers are Deion Branch and Jerry Porter. Do you think either of these guys should start this week?

No. Peerless Price and Bradford is a good tandem. I'd stick with them.

Just because Bradford does well, doesn't mean the Jag's defense won't. He's their only viable scoring threat right now. All the sacks, fumble recoveries, and interceptions Jax may get don't apply to Bradford, and so what if Bradford gets a TD catch this week. You lose a couple of points on defense, but depending on how your league scores points, you should gain more points than you lose with Bradfords TD.

I know it's not the most ideal situation (I've actually played QBs and their opposing D's in the same week. Not fun. Don't know who to cheer for.. :( ) but like I mentioned before, it's a better solution to any of the other's you've come up with.

I think Jacksonville would be a good start mainly because they're playing the Texans. I played Indy's D vs. the Texans and it resulted in some decent fantasy points. As someone already mentioned, Bradford is Houston's only scoring threat so even if he puts up a couple TDs, you're still in good shape.

Man, I hope you followed my advice.
Nope, would have been a good choice though. Ended up going with Jacksonville. BTW, this game (Bucs vs. Panthers) has got to be one of the UGLIEST games I've ever seen (remember I am a Panthers fan so I've seen a lot of ugly games this season and last.)
