I admit I have only a very basic understanding of fantasy football, but I have to know why it's such a big deal. I mean, what does the winner get? Bragging rights? Or are there "big time" leagues in which hundreds of millions of dollars are involved?

I'm not going to say it's a waste of time -- different strokes for different folks -- but I just don't get the appeal...

Money, bragging rights, and small sense of accomplishment when you pick a bustout player that others overlooked.

I won just short of $200 last year in my league for taking 2nd place. Winner took almost $350.

It's something to do over the crummy winter months and gives you a bit more of an interest at a micro level in the sport.

bragging rights, money, chance for 12 of us to get together once a year and get drunk and draft for 4 hours. During the regular season it's more interesting to watch all of the games that don't involve your favorite team because you have players in other games. It's fun.
