This movie started out looking good, but then turned sour really fast. Looks like another "Hulk" stinker :(

you're speaking about this specific vid ? How are you coming to this conclusion ?

Interviews with the actors and post production comments in magazines/websites.

I haven't really dug into all that much save for the teasers and this one... what I found out from this one is that the movie basically focuses on how each of them will deal with their newfound powers and they will come together to be superheroes. Seems very character-driven and of course the action will come. I didn't watch Hulk but I didn't want to because it was entirely CGI... this one isn't. I'm just trying to understand if you meant it's going to suck because of storyline or what...

FYI, they've all signed on for the next 12 years to do sequels. This will either make them filthy rich or ... well let's face it, they're already rich.

Just got back from watching it. Cool movie
Alba is HAWT
Chicklis was awesome too!

On my comic book movie scale if...
Spiderman is 10/10,
X-2 is 9/10,
Daredevil is 4/10,
and Catwoman is 1/10,

F4 gets an 8/10

All the actors fit their parts really well. Doom was really cool, and I've always been a fan of the actor that played Mr. Fantastic, ever since he played the Horatio Hornblower series.

Effects were great. Not too much unneccesary CGI. The Thing was entirely make-up, and very well done i might add. Mr. Fantastic was probably the hardest to do, and he came out great most of the time.

btw, alba in a lingerie shot pushed my rating up half a point to 8

EDIT: fixed my rating scale

I think you're on crack. I just got back, it stunk. the effects were lame (except for the thing, all the CG was piss poor by today's standards). alba still can't act (slightly better than sin city though). Reid and doom were just mac 'n cheeze. the script spent way too much time on unimportant crap and flew by the interesting parts.

what were you expecting...I mean you know what their powers were. How else do you expect those effects to come out on screen without the use of CGI?

You missed the point. It wasn't that the effects were pulled off with CGI, it was that they wre pulled off with substandard CGI when compared to what's being done in other movies.

I was trying to edit my post, but i didn't make it in time...

I got your point, but I didn't find the CGI all that below par. There were a few scenes i felt that director could/should have avoided. One that comes to mind is when Mr. Fantastic is sticking his hand under Ben's door to open it. His hand looked terrible in that shot, but only because they spent to much camera time on it. I don't think there's enough CGI out there to make certain things look all that realistic.

That's the same feeling I got.....

.....after watching the preview.

This might be a good Netflix rental, but I'm not watching this one in the cinema.

I saw it tonight and liked it, granted its no spiderman or xmen but it was still good IMO and Alba did a decent job despite what all the bandwagon nay sayers say.

and the torch, and the solar burst thing, doom's lightning, alba's force field, alba's invisibility, the machine in reid's apt....

all things well within the capabilities of a good FX house (trust me, I know), and all things that just looked lame in the movie.

OK
I suppose my expectations were set lower than yours, becuase i thought alba's powers and the torch were pretty well done.
I'll give you the solar burst and doom's lightning though.

the invisibility was mostly OK, but I think it's more due to the fact that it's tough to make the lack of visibility look either bad or good. It looked really lame when she was partly visible/ partly invisible (those, I'm guessing, would be the toughest shots in the whole movie too look convincing, but I think a few of the top shops could've done it)

the force field would have been acceptable a few years ago. today it's just blah.

I think too many movies these days are taking the attitude "it's CG, people will like it"

it's just not enough any more.

Heh...looks like most of the world agrees with you. I'm still going to see it though- my son has become infatuated with The Thing for some reason.
