Hi,
I helped a friend reformat his compaq evo n2010v, went through the whole fiasco with rezctivation with microsoft, reinstalled all his drivers etc etc. The thing was running like a dream. For 4 days :(

Now it essentially does nothing. When we turn the power on the fans start, not really sure if I can hear the hdd spinning, the power light is on, but all other lights are off,(battery, hdd, etc)
The screen does absolutely nothing.

I know my way around the hardware of a desktop (have built and repaired many machines) however, I have never opened a notebook, ever. Am I going to be in over me head by try to take the case apart to get at the components and is there anything I'm going to be able to find out once I'm there? So sad as this was still quite a good machine and was more than adequate for his requirements.

I'd imagine there would be cables connecting the base to the keyboard to be careful of. Am I going to be able to try to boot it with the case open to see what fans are on and to establish if the hdd is actually spinning. Is there a notebook hardware noobs guide around somewhere?
