Fans on a Dell switch

QueBert

Lifer
I don't have the model number sorry, but my moms work has a Dell switch that has 40mm fans all along the bottom, it's loud. It sounds like a wind tunnel in her office (where it's at) I know the smaller the fan the louder they are. But this seems beyond even that, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with replacing the fans in one of these. Since it's a Dell I'm wondering if they're not some some stupid proprietary fans.

Assuming the thermals wernt way out of wack when they designed the switch and you can get away with slower fans i think you are screwed. I dont think you are going to find 40mm fans that move the same amount of air that are much quieter.

Enterprise-grade switches are loud and the fans are high-performance for a reason. They belong in wiring closets or data centers with the rest of the loud crap. Either get a cheaper switch or move the switch to a closet.
