Fanless Vid card for HTPC

I'm building an HTPC out of old parts & MCE 2005. Does anyone know if I can run my Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB with the fan unplugged (silence is better) as long as I'm not gaming on it (2D apps & TV only). I've tested this idea by letting the system run idle on the desktop for a few hours with no fan, but I was looking for some other inputs on the 24/7 scenario. It will be running in an Antec Sonata I case with two 120mm, low RPM fans.

The silencer is an after market VGA cooler made by Arctic Cooling. It is relatively quiet, but is known to click and can get somewhat noisy.

For fanless, you would have to look around. I think there is an X800XL Ultimate edition that is fanless.

You may also want to look around http://www.SilentPCReview.com and look at their recent articles. Class A group of people over there!

If you aren't looking for a fanless system, just a quiet one, the Zalman VF-700 is rumored to be slightly better than the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer (and slightly cheaper).

I was just checking out the Zalman VF-700Alcu, but I was hoping to not have to bother. Does anyone have anything to say about the temps in non-3D mode on the 9800Pro?
