Hi.

For months, I've been waiting for a fanless mini PC with an Intel Core i5-8250u CPU in it, to be offered any where.

Does it exist?

If not, why not? Is there a physical problem in its assembly?

Thanks.

Ken, the "mini PCs" are smaller than the Mini-STX in your link.

8250u is a mobile CPU, which is what's utilized in mini PCs.

A MiniPC using this case and an i3-8100 could be the way to go for those wanting a MiniPC that's fanless. One question however, do AM4 Mini-STX boards exist?
Well, what do you know, not only can I not find AM4 STX, I can't find boards for Coffee Lake either. I wonder why.

Yeah really. something like the 2200G and 2400G APUs are perfect for this type of form factor..

No; smaller, like the ones I linked.

The longest dimension of this one is 273 mm.
The longest dimension of one of those is 124 mm.
So? That is still fairly small and allows you to have a higher performance CPU then using a laptop one.

Performance is not a priority to me, and it generates more heat. I believe a mobile i5 is fast enough for my use.

ASRock does make a DeskMini 310W now, which is a 310 chipset, for Coffee Lake, and they do have 65W hex-core CPUs available for it.
Something like that would be the better approach. How is the noise level on the DeskMini 310N?

I don't know about any DeskMini 310N, but I have the 110W units, and with Smart FAN enabled, with the stock Intel cooler that shipped with the G4560 and G4600, it's nearly silent to me.

But then again, I'm in a room with mining PCs, and a twin window exhaust fan, and an A/C in the other room. So my noise floor, and definition of "silence", may be a bit different than yours.

In any case, I wouldn't ever call it "loud", or even "somewhat noisy". It tends towards my definition of "silence". Then again, I've pretty-much on had it on light, bursty loads, like web browsing, not DC stuff.

I rather have something like the Akasa Galileo ST case but capable of having 65W TDP Desktop CPUs like the Ryzen 2200G/2400G APUs and Intel's Coffee Lake CPUs.

Streacom makes 65w capable Fanless enclosures, but they are a fair bit bigger. In fanless, size and power dissipation are going to be inversely related.

But I too would trade bigger size to be able to use a Ryzen 2200G.

It's still small, and you CPU options increase a LOT.

It is rather neat how he managed to use a 95w TDP CPU in a case that small. If I was in the market for a MiniPC case, the fact this case can take a low profile card is a plus.
