First of all - hi to all of you! ;)

I would like to buy cooler without fan for my PIII@933MHz, is it possible, it's pretty old processor right now, I'm not sure whteher I can find it at all...

I saw recently Cooler Master Hyper 6, can I use it for my PIII?

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!

You can use just about any Socket A clip-on heatsink out there, but I doubt that you'll be able to run completely fanless.

why? the cooler required will cost as much as a m/b + cpu combo at frys that will beat the pants off it.

I've never seen a $16 m/b + cpu combo at frys that will beat the pants off it.

I don't think he was refering to that post.
I think he means that any heatsink good enough to go without a fan will be $50 or so, which is a lot considering what it's being used for.

Get the GC68 @ SVC, put it t 5 - 7 V and call it a day. :)

How much more heat does the 933MHz put out compared to a 800MHz P3?

I cleaned up my friends P3 800MHz computer over the summer and I slapped on my old 1.2GHz Thunderbird heatsink (i think it was the Globalwin CAK38). I bent the fins outward so it looks a little like the Zalman flower heatsink. It hardly even gets warm and there's very little case cooling too, just the PSU fan and 80mm exhaust fan running at 5v.

Don't you know... SVC discontinued that unit about a half year ago. Heck, at the end I think they were blowing them out for $1.99 each or something. However, SVC still has other units that are budget with reasonable performance and low noise. Look for Arctic Cooling units or the CoolerMaster X-Dreamer II, or even the ThermalTake TR3 units - basically there's still a bunch of big aluminum heatsinks with copper cores and 80mm fans on the market for under $15.

For fanless cooling...
ZALMAN CNPS6000-AlCu $29

Here's an interesting pin-fin design with a base that looks like Alpha made it...
EVERCOOL CUE-610 COOLER $9
