Not sure as to how valid it is, but ill post it anyway as this could be highly interesting...

It appears they've just build a cooler that has a large surface area, enough to cool the cpu using ambient air.

Linky needs fixin'

Not many pictures of it. I still think you need a case fan blowing over it to cool it off though.

My next architecture will definitely be hammer. They're putting out what? 30-50watts on their low end chips? The prescott on .09u are running over 100watts. I'm into quiet PCs so this is the deciding factor for me.

I'm going to go with the latest generation of A64s for their enhanced Cool n' Quiet ability.

Old = 800Mhz, 35?w, 12.x leakage
New = 1Ghz, 22w, 7.x leakage

Impressive. :)

Please do remember to post your review. I would be extremely interested in a fanless solution.

Yeah i forgot to mention its the Zalman TNN-500A case. Very expensive - but completely fan less A64 :) It is kind of neat not hearing anything but the hard drive.

I think that would just make me hate the hard drive...

How much is one of those cases? And do they sell them anywhere? I looked for one and I'm having trouble even seeing any for sale.

I don't think any retailers have them yet. They should be around $1200.

Does anyone have any details on just how much heat an Athlon 64 releases on full load?

That case may be expensive, but it's cheaper than trying to run a computer in another room like some studios have to do.

High quality extenders from Gefen aren't cheap and you usually have to pick less than optimal equipment anyway.
With this box you could run any monitor or input device on a machine that has to be quiet.
