fanbus on a PSU

Hey anybody tricked out their PSU with a variable resistor? I was thinking of replacing the fan in a new 300 Watt unit with a papst hi power fan connected via a fanbus? type resistor assembly... Anyone done anything similar? In fact, thought about using some custom connectors for all the fans throughout the case with a mini fanbus arrangement located in the psu.
