Fanatec Porsche Wheel Reviews and info

Looks like some of these are out in the wild now. They are still NOT the final product from what I am reading but are about as close as possible (ie minor differences on the final revision). Wheels are in production and will supposedly be shipped very soon (in time for Forza 3's release)

From what I understand Fanatec has mentioned adding features to newly built wheels that will not be on the first shipment of 911 Turbo S wheels, if I was someone who got a 1st shipment wheel I'd be mad.

Just what I heard on Forza Central though...or AVS...

That is correct. Supposedly the wheels will be firmware upgradeable as well. They are not publicizing this little tidbit but it can be found on Tomas' blog.

The additional features they have added are nice but not deal breakers IMHO. These features were added because of the delays in getting the last few kinks ironed out with it's functionality with FM3.

Stuff like that makes me not trust their product. When Logitech makes a wheel they test and retest it to death to make sure it works and it's exactly how they want it.

With Fanatec it's more of an "Oh, we don't have it how we like it but instead of delaying it to get it right we'll ship an incomplete product out and fix it later." Between the sheer amount of "overpricedness" and (to me at least) the somewhat shifty dealings of Fanatec I wouldn't buy one unless it was a phenominal deal...which it will never be.

Come on Logitech, make a G29 that's Xbox 360 compatible!

they would if microsoft would let them.

$350 for this 911 wheel is just too goddamned much for something that's still 99% cheap-looking plastic.

Well they did not release the final product yet because they were not happy with the way it works. It was suppose to ship back in June and has been pushed back several times.

My understanding is that the ones out in the wild now are still "beta". Not sure if that means that those folks will get the final production models or not but what I have read is that the final model and features are set and are in final production ... at least that is what info I have been given.

And yes I did order one for myself (back in March of this year).

Are you trying to say that Fanatec is the EA of peripherals makers?

To an extent, maybe...although you can't call EA exclusive to that club.
