My fan has been making weird noises for a while now, but i've just been pretty much ignoring it. Well as of late, my computer has been freezing up in random places, and the longer I kept my computer off at a certain period of time, the longer it would stay on. So that means there's a heating problem. So I took off the sides to my computer and took the fan off to see how it was doing. It's still spinning. It just makes weird noises when it's screwed to the processor cover, i have no idea why it's doing that, but okay, it is. So right now, the fan's screwed on to where it doesn't make much weird noise anymore, sometimes it does, but oh well, I can live with it. I kept the sides off, keep my window open so that a steady cool air comes in, i have a fan on the first power blowing into it from about 3 feet away from the open case directly onto the motherboard, processor, fan, etc.... And it seems to be doing the trick, my question is, how long will this method hold out? There WAS a smell a few days ago, which I figured to be some kind of thermal paste melting. So that's where I am, it seems to be working now, but could there be a small malfunction somewhere that the heat messed up, or will the constant air blowing on all of the hardware slow it down or mess something up?
p.s. I don't know temps, but It's running an AMD Athlon 1.00 GHz processor and 256mb of ram.
