i want to make my fans on my cpu hs and my gpu faster so they cool better, my cpu and gfx r a bit hot. e6600 and 8800GTS. I had my gpu fan at 100%. I was talkin to someone on css and he sayd i shouldnt put the fans at 100% because it will wear them out faster. I dont want to have to change the heat sink on them or the fan on the 8800GTS. He sayd 75% should be good. What do you guys think?

At stock fan speeds after playing oblivion and quiting my GPU will be at 72C and my CPU will be at 59C

How long should my fans live for?

At full speed, quality fans should be good for a couple of years. Most sleeve bearing fans should be oriented vertically for longest life - ball bearing fans should do OK either vertically or horizontally. You don't want the angle to be more than 5 deg. off from H or V on either. Most 12V fans are rated for up to 13.x volts if you wanna try overvolting a bit... ;) Undervolting can extend fan life assuming other enviromental factors are decent - relatively clean, ambient temps within reason, humidity not excessive etc.

I just changed out the little 70x15mm screamer (4500 RPM at nominal voltage) that was OEM on my CPU HS after about two or three (I'll have to look and see when I bought it) years as I had been running it at 3300 to 3500 for most of the time. It still sounded good at the ~3500 speed, but had developed a bearing rattle at high speed.

I made a post on here about overclocking fans, and everyone just laughed at me.
Thanks for the info Zepper!!
