Fan speed readings

How accurate are the readings for fan speed? I have an Abit KT7, the fan I had before was a crappy one so I got something a little better (Coolermaster 6H51 or 53), which according to the website has a 4600 RPM fan. However, motherboard monitor only indicates 2700. The reading for the case cooler is 3900, I thought they were all 4500 too. What gives? Should I plug the fans to the power supply connectors, instead of the motherboard, as if the mobo is not supplying enough voltage? Or should I disregard those readings?

Thanks in advance!

From my experience, the rpm rating from the manufacturer usually matches or come close to the readings from the motherboard. The biggest discrepency I've seen are a little less than 1000rpm.

You may want to check your fans on another motherboard if you can just to make sure, because ~2000rpm discrepency sounds like too much of a difference to me.
