fan running loudly...okay?

so sometime if I watch videos on youtube, or maybe just play some of the 3d games that came with the computer, the game or video will run fine with no problems. just you hear the fan inside the desktop blow loudly and constantly until the game/video ends.

is that okay? anything to worry about?

Depending on the machine, it's probably normal. As long as everything works fine and the machine remains stable, it seems as if your fans are working OK.

With the system off, examine for dust/cables touching the fan.

Use a vacuum cleaner gently if necessary, or blow really hard whilst closing your eyes to blow the dust off.

Flash apps (like YouTube) can really load down the CPU. What you're hearing is probably the CPU fan ramping up to cope with the extra heat caused loading the CPU. This is likely normal, but I agree with montag451's suggestion. If you're comfortable working around computers, open it up and make sure that the heatsink and fans are clogged up with dust.

good advice 😉

Some Video Cards have very loud fans.

I have 7800GS from BFG installed in 775Dual-VSTA, and the fan was absolutely, unbearably loud. Even when just browsing in Vista RC1, it sounded like a hair dryer.

I removed the fan with the casing and put a regular 80mm fan on the otherwise massive copper heatsink with a "makeshift" bracket. No aftermarket HSF would fit the BFG hole pattern.

Have been using it since November 2006 with no issues at all.

That's why I decided to go with EVGA for my 7950GT instead of BFG. I believe that it was kinda negligent on BFG side to put such a loud fan on a card, relatively expensive in April 2006 (~$300). Their support was completely oblivious to my questions regarding the aftermarket solutions, they just told me "I don't know what would fit".

They lost a customer to EVGA.
