Fan RPM info -> fan controller -> motherboard?

I'll try to keep this one short.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard. It doesn't allow for manual fan controller of any header except the CPU header, which IMO is pretty stupid on Gigabyte's part. The headers will still display RPM info, which I can see through Speedfan.

I have three case fans, Scythe Slipstream 1200RPMs, and one GPU fan, a Scythe Kama Flow 2 1400RPM (on a Setsugen 2), that I need to control/undervolt. Four fans, two intakes, one exhaust, one internal GPU fan.

I also have a "dumb" fan controller - an old Sunbeam Rheobus. It has 3-pin connections but no RPM readout. I like it because it allows control from around 11.5V all the way down to 0.

Can I pass the RPM signal cable from the fan through the fan controller and into the motherboard? I only have three spare headers on the motherboard but I can tie the front two intake fans together, since I want them at the same speed anyway. I can imagine this would be easy if I took a knife and soldering station to the fan cable, but I would prefer not to dissect my fans if I don't have to. Are there adapters for this purpose?

Thanks!

You can't splice rpm signal wires but you can the voltage lines. Similar fans spliced together for power using one fan for rpm monitoring is how I read the fans on rads w/ more than 1 fan. The rpm wire does not go to the controller, run this wire to the apropriate pin on the mobo header. (you can find which pin is rpm in your manual, the mobo will read rpm w/o a fan powered from that header). You can find fan splitter or "Y" cables and mod them if you don't want to cut up your fan wires.

Alright, that's not a bad idea. Should I run a Y-cable from the fan to the mobo and fan controller and just cut off the voltage lines from the motherboard? Those Y-cables are much cheaper on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119148)
