I went out and bought a vantec stealth 120mm fan to replace the loud aspire fan.
The aspire didnt have a 3 pin, it used just 4 pin molex straight to power supply.....so i guessed that why the system could not see how fast it was spinning.... the new vantec came with the 3 pin, so i plugged it into my "fsfan2" on my motherboard, and the system still doesnt monitor how fast it is spinning ( the fan is working perfectly")......anyone know why the system reads the cpu fan speed...but not the case fan??

I checked and there should be 3 wires. Red is power , black is ground and yellow is signal (rpm)
Your mobo looks like it should support that. The fan has a 3 pin to 4 pin adapter too. Are u using the adaptor?

Some fans don't support RPM monitoring. You can still connect it to a seperate fan controller though.

normally the colors on power supplies are red 5 volt, yellow 12 volt, black ground.
But on the fans the yellow is to read speed. I use the stealth fans in my comps and they all have the yellow wire.

Since the fan does not have a yellow wire it lacks a tach/sensor feed.

You should have asked first or searched the Cases & Cooling Forum.

Scythe has some new 120mm fans out, that may have a tach wire.

Akasa and Delta Triple Blade fans in low speed are quiet, both have a tach wire.
These can be seen at http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/

Akasa's OEM is Y.S.Tech, these can be a little difficult to find.

Note: Just because a fan has three wires does NOT automaticly mean that it has tach support.
Most all current MBs have tach support.

I went to the Vantec home page and looked at one review of your fan.

Neither stated that your unit has a tach feed wire. As I noted in my first post.
Just because a fan has three wires does not automaticly mean that one is a tach feed.
Many fans are sold with three wires and lack this feature.

Google is your friend...Do a little research...Before you buy. ;)
