I've putting off a mod on my server case for a while now, and I think I've found a decent solution to get it over with quick. The case has two banks of 4 92mm fans, which I have Akasa Amber 92mm fans installed. I think I'm gonna mod it to transfer the power over CAT5e cable. Currently it's modified (half way completed but stalled for 2 years now) to use a DB 9 serial power for power to the fans. At this point, I just want to put in the fans and get them going.

I think this will work, as the fan power requirements aren't high, and it's easy to solder the connections necessary...

Works perfect. CAT5/6 can be used for many applications. Just look at PoE for example. As long as you're not putting enough amps through it to melt it, you're fine. :p
