fan power on CAT5 cable?

I've putting off a mod on my server case for a while now, and I think I've found a decent solution to get it over with quick. The case has two banks of 4 92mm fans, which I have Akasa Amber 92mm fans installed. I think I'm gonna mod it to transfer the power over CAT5e cable. Currently it's modified (half way completed but stalled for 2 years now) to use a DB 9 serial power for power to the fans. At this point, I just want to put in the fans and get them going.

I think this will work, as the fan power requirements aren't high, and it's easy to solder the connections necessary...


Thoughts?

It will work fine. Cat5 can more than carry what the fans need.

Works perfect. CAT5/6 can be used for many applications. Just look at PoE for example. As long as you're not putting enough amps through it to melt it, you're fine.
