Fan Only Connectors

I have an Antec Plus1080amg case, and it has an Antec True430 PSu with it.

The case came with three Antec fans, two rear exhaust and one side intake. I then bought two more cooler master green led fans just to have them intake from the front and give off a little ambitient glow at the same time.

My problem is that the Antec manual says not to put more than 3 fans on the fan only connectors that come off of the PSU. Since the stock Antec fans are the louder ones compared to my coolermasters, I put those three on the fan only connectors and the coolermasters on a regular connector.

The problem is that the case is extremely loud, but when I take my two coolermasters off the regular conectors and have them on the fan only connectors along with the three other antec fans, the system is incredibly quiet and runs fine. However, Antec says only three fans should be on these connectors, and I am basically asking what would potentially happen if I left these 5 fans on the fan only connectors, wheras Antec says to only have two?

Hey epsilon... you should check out the thread: "Ixnay on the front-back-fans-ay? " It has some information that I think you would find interesting.

I checked that thread, and I was rather surprised with the results! However, I really don't feel like testing all of this for myself. I really just want to know if I will be safe funning more than 3 fans on the fan only connectors.

The PSU is probably only designed to provide a limited current to those connectors. My guess would be between 1A and 1.5A. If you email Antec they would probably provide the specification.

You may want to test the CoolerMaster led fans with the "fan only" connectors.
I currently have one fan hooked to a fan only connector and since my case trep is always low, the power supply only gives it about 5v or so. That isn't enough voltage to light up the led's. They will, however, light up @ 7v. So next time I open my case open I am going to 7 volt mod it.

The voltage on those connectors is supposed to ramp up when temps rise, but I have never experienced it.

I tested with all the fans (5) on the fan only connectors and the coolermaster leds still light up but are much fainter than when they are on dedicated power. I could care less, however, I just want to know if having those 5 fans on fan only connectors is going to pose any problem taking up too much power from the fan only lines.

I think most on this forum don't use the "fan only" connectors.

A Google search of TruePower reviews might turn up something.
But your best bet for an answer would be Antec tech support.

Antec can tell you the current that the circuit is capable of handling.
Personally I wouldn't do it unless I was sure that I was drawing under the rated amperage.

You can always 5v or 7v mod your fan connectors and hook them up to a regular molex.

I was running the fands under the fan only connectors for a long time and they worked fine. They also didn't do anything wrong during a 5 hour prime95 torture test, but I am still sceptical as to why I shouldn't put more than the reccomended number of fans.
