Fan on mobo is dying

how long has it been? It's probably just a 50mm fan, and you can splice the wires with the connector of the old fan. If it's within the warranty period, they should replace the fan. Or, you can get a blorb or something like that.

Take the fan off and throw it away. Lots of boards with Kt133 chipsets have no fan, some don't even have a heatsink. If you're terribly concerned get a zalman chipset sink from 2cooltek, or one of the small sinks from 1coolpc if you already have thermal epoxy.

thanks for the replies... I'll look into a heatsink but in the meantime i might take the fan off and see if that makes my system unstable.

Asus would probably just send another of the cheap fans they use. I use either Tennmax Lasagna coolers on mine (got a bunch really cheap) or else something similar to the FAC08. One of mine uses a 40x40x25mm fan - that does quite a fine job. Make sure to get something not sleeve bearing though.

Isnt the FAC the really thin heatsink from Global Win? Get the FA420, it beats the blorb :)
