I have NO idea how to get rid of this, it's very aggravating as it happens quite frequently. This was also happening with an ATi card with ATi Silencer. I changed power supplies hoping that would fix it, but no luck. If anyone has any idea how to get rid of this, please let me know. It seems to happen when the fan kicks in, but also when I access Hotmail it starts skipping/slowing down my music. Also happens in iTunes and when playing Winamp. It was NOT happening when I was using just integrated nVidia 6100.

Reinstall Windows... seriously though, you could try to set the fan speed to a permanent level. What kind of mobo you have btw?

No idea, something integrated with X2 3800+ in Acer.

is that your system, and do you have Rivatuner installed? that way you can at least control your fan speeds.

i'm not sure that a fan kicking in would be the cause of your half second lock-ups

I just installed RivaTuner, but don't see where I can adjust fan speed. Could you help me locate it?

open Rivatuner...click on the {customize...} below the "Driver settings"...click on System settings...click the "Fan" tab...from there you can adjust the fan settings for standard 2D,low power 3D, and performance 3D

Bummer, just found out it's not the fan on the video card, but the fan on the CPU :( Now how to fix this...

Go into your BIOS and disable the fan speed control. If that fails, power the fan from a molex rather than the CPU header on the board (using a cable with a speed control switch preferably). Mind you since this is an intel P4 system, I take no responsibility whatsoever if your CPU melts as a result :p

You're rig had reached its limit...perhaps getting a better PSU would do the fix? What's the specs on yer' PSU anyways  ?

It's a Thermaltake 500W power supply, so it should be good. Though I think this started after putting four (4) hard drives in a small case.

I'll do as you said. Will report back. Thanks for the tip.
