Recently had my cpu fan stop. I turned up the knob on the fan mate 2 and it started again. I left it at this faster speed. Then I was playing TR Legend and my computer shut down. I discovered the fan was not running again. I disconnected the fan mate 2 and now its fine (loud, but cool atleast).

This happened to anybody?

Is there a software means to do the same thing? I gave up on Cool and Quiet last year with so many problems. I just ordered the X2 4200+ and I would like to try C&Q again, or something similar.

thanks in advance.

Fanmate is only a variable resistor. Its effect on voltage depends directly on the fan. Is this a fan that came with the FanMate? Or, are you using your Fanmate on a different fan?

hmm... looks nice. Does that mount in a 5.25" bay? I like that concept. My case has 3 bays and I'm only using 2.

I contacted Zalman about the fan mate 2. though i'm not eager to use that again.

Any thoughts about the Sunbeam Lightbus Fan and Light controller? It's listed on the same site as the one linked above.

In that case, either your Fanmate is faulty or the fan draws more current than it is supposed to (or both)!

So, you're using a Zalman HSF that had the FanMate2 bundled? My wife's computer has an Abit K8N with a Zalman 7700AlCu. I elected to NOT use the FanMate2 with it because the BIOS had a Smart Fan feature where it adjusted the fan speed based on detected temperature. I just set that up to the parameters I wanted and it works great. When system POSTs the fan kicks in at maximum speed, but then drops down to set speed. Perhaps check your motherboard BIOS for such a setting.
