Fan making a whistling noise

The last couple days one of my fans in my case has been making a whistling type of noise. I was wondering what might be some causes and what I can do to fix it, if anything. Thanks

Is there a gap (like what happens with some rubber mounting pins) around the mounting to the case? If so, you may need to close the gap with something that won't negate the isolation gained by the rubber pins.

hmm not really sure what you mean but I will take a look. do i need to open up the case? it was my first machine i built myself but it was been fine for about 5 months

When in doubt, change the fan. They are relatively cheap.

Well, if you didn't mount the fan with rubber pins, then that couldn't be the problem. Perhaps the bearings are about to give out. OEM fans that come with cases and many PSUs are about the cheapest out there. When you replace them, get some good ones. There are numerous threads here discussing all sizes of fans from 60mm to 120mm so you should be able to find all the info you need with a little searching of C&C.
