fan increasing RPMs by itself?

i have a cheapie coolmaster HS that came with my DURON. when i first got it last week, IIRC motherboard monitor said the fan was spinning at about 4400 RPM. now it's at 5000 RPM. did it increase the fan speed by itself? perhaps increased use somehow increased its RPM? thanks.

Fans can settle in, and increase RPM. 4400 to 5000 is pretty radical, though. I'd keep a careful eye on it. If it gained that much speed, chances are pretty good that it'll lose RPM's sooner or later.

TRy the fan directly off a power supply connector, it might run even faster. Mobo headers frequently don't put out the full 12v.

Some motherboards throttle the fan speed if the CPU is under full load. Run a program that puts the CPU at 100% utilization and check the fan speed, then turn the program off and check the speed again.

well i have been noticing in the last couple of days or so that my LOAD temps have dropped a little (49 C as opposed to 50 or 51 C).

my computer has been running 3 days straight now and mobo monitor tells me avg fan speed is 5105 RPM. this thing seems like it keeps increasing it's fan speed. oh well getting my taisol tomorrow or so.
