Wel, i'm gonna order an XP-90 tomorrow, and i'm wondering how much more cooling i can get with a panaflo m1a vs an L1a, i ask because i have been able to find the 92mm L1a with RPM monitoring but not the M1a, and i'd like to know if the extra cooling is worth it, given that i will be throttling the fan with speedfan until i get a fan controller.

I will guess about 2-3C @ idle and maybe 4-6C under load. Just a guess seeing how I don't have either of them. I say go for the higher speed one anyways since you are controlling it.

i have the L1B with the rpm sensor on my xp-90. my temps are 34c idle 40c load with the fan running at 65% in speedfan and its dead quiet. the only thing i can hear now is the fan on my x800xt which im gonna replace with a vf700Cu when i get some spare cash.

also i am hoping to OC to 2.6 or even 2.7 if possible, will the L1B be enough for that, or should i go with an H1B and just throttle it way back on idle?

the L1B should be good enough. its really up to you if you dont care about noise but since your gonna get a fan controller for it any fan should do the trick.

If it were me -- and in fact it will be "me" when I get around to replacing a ThermaTake PIPE101 with an XP90 still in its carton after several months -- I would pick the Panaflo 92mm fan rated as "H" or "H1" for "high-airflow."

Then, I would hook the sucker up to the motherboard CPU_FAN pinout, install Alfredo Comparetti's "SpeedFan," and set the fan speed at 60% to 75% for temperatures under 100F (approximately 38C), and 90% to 96% for temperatures above 100F.

That gives you the same noise profile of the L1 and M1 fans during "normal" usage, and better CFM for the XP90 during "load" usage.

looks like a good idea to me. FYI the xp-90 doesnt require a high output fan to have cool temps. i've seen others whos use a Nexus fan 92mm 19dba 1500rpm 27cfm, and those are enough to cool a overclocked cpu plus their quiet. just my opinion, i'm kinda turning to a silent freak :D thanks to my old system with a TMD cpu fan . with the L1B i have at 90-100% speed i hear wind noise, just thought you should know that.

I am Using a Tt Silent Cat with mine. Temps only reach 40c without load when the rest of the house is hitting 90 (which means its like 110 in my room).

The panaflo L1A should do you just fine, just make sure that your case has good airflow; I have this cooler/fan combo but it's nearly useless in my wavemaster with terrible cooling :(

Hmm, how feasable would it be to lower the H1B down to L1B noise level while maintaining the same air flow?

if you read the reviews at silentpc and there are others..the higher cfm ...do not make a big difference with XP90 on cooling...not much more than 2-3C.....and unless you A64 is flaky I doubt this will be the reason you overclock does not work...I have winny A64 and it simply will not do higher than 2550 even with more voltage it is not a heat issue as prime95 dies very quickly

I have venice 3200 that does 2800 if I give it 1.62v with good temps....but I prefer lower voltage and 1.57v

I use a XP90 with with a Vantec stealth 92mmfan..22dba..I bought a Panaflo 92mm BX...makes more noise..hugher cfm..temps are 1C differnet on my venice and has no effect on my oc...@2750 I ran prime 95 small/large fft for 15 each when I stopped ..with no erros temps were 49/50c at full load, essentially the same with Panaflo and higher cfm

I got better temps by switching my top fan to intake on my P180 than doing anything with HS fan
