Whats a good cpu fan for an xp 2000+ that has good airflow but is not very noisy? I was looking at a Thermaltake Volcano for $12 on newegg. Is that a good choice? Thanks.

ehh, its not bad, depending on which model it is. The Volcano 7 seems to be pretty popular but I myself have had no experience with them. The SVC GC-68 heatsink is very nice, and uses an 80mm fan, so its nice and quiet. Its also relatively cheap. If you can find that; I would buy that.

www.svcompucycle.com has a GV-68 with a YS-Tech 48.5cfm fan thats rated at 36dba for like $18. The fan wont be really quiet but 36dba isnt bad especially since it is only like 3300rpm so it wont be high pitched. And I wouldnt suggest the Volcano 7 as being quiet.

I have a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+ (the one with the copper bottom and 7000rpm fan) on my Athlon 1700+. Although the fan usually keeps my CPU within 5C of my ambient case temp, it is extremely loud (what's that you say? sorry, my ears are bleeding). I'm waiting for NewEgg to stock the Volcano 7+ (all copper heat sink and variable speed fan). Good luck to you.

I agree, and you can also outfit it with an 80mm fan using the low profile clips. ;)
