What do you use for intake fans ? How often do you clean and or replace them for optimal performance ? My temps are 27 C mobo and 40 C CPU right now as I have been on the net for over an hour now. I have seen the CPU get up to 46 C after playing games for a few hours. I feel these temps are decent as I am not overclocking my A7V and T-Bird 800. What do you guys thing ? I am using a Coolermaster DP5-6H51 heatsink fan combo rated up to 1.2 Ghz T-bird on mine.

I use the mesh filters at 2cooltek when i saw how good they looked I mounted them on the outside of my case instead ot the pretty chrome fan grills. Sure makes them easy to clean to just hit them with the vacuum once a week. They are constructed of what appears to be aluminum screen materiel like you would find in a window screen that has been formed into a corrugated pattern that makes it more rigid and is mounted in a rigid aluminum frame.
 
i put fabric softener sheets on the inside of mine.....not only does it trap all dust but you would be surprised how quickly the scent travels around your room.

By the way, how'd you guys attach them???
 
i actually used pantyhouse, it catches the dust extremely well and lets more air though then dryer sheets i think. that and so i don't bother my roomate w/ the smell (he likes his plug-in crap 😉 )
 
I'm not sure, but used ones work a bit better... I used "used" bounce dryer sheets... I attack with some tape, stretch it over the fans, and tape dwon the other side.. finish by taping the whole thing on...

I usually replace it ever 3 weeks or so.

i've put bounce sheets on before and end up taking them off because they seem to restrict so much air...felt like it was only letting about half as much air through compaired to when i don't have the sheets on...and oh yea, sticking a 92mm on your heat sink will drop you temp bout 4-5 C...i know mine did

if you have to exchange/clean your filters every 3 weeks or so isn't it equally good or better then not to use filters but clean the whole case every month or so with a vacuum cleaner and also enjoy the little bit of increased airflow when NOT using the filters?
 
One could make that argument, but that's why filter's are a personal choice. I haven't cleaned otu my computer in months, and its still pretty clean on the inside.

As far as going in to clean it, chances are i just wouldn't, and i'd let the dust build up.

I have a cut up home furnace filter in the front of my antec sx830.. not sure how it works yet as the case is empty.. but it seems to let air flow thru pretty well.. have to test it with a system in there though.

Im thinkin of riggin one up someday when im bored for an airfilter see how it goes. Also be a combination insect trap!
 
Was having trouble rigging it cuz I couldn't get the front of my case off all the way, so I just gave up... was a good idea thought, maybe next time...
 
Well, after reading the pantyhose idea on some website...and deciding the way the did it just didnt work (super glue doesnt stick well to pantyhose...least it didnt for me)...I created my own super cheap way to make filters.

You need:
Metal Coat Hangers
Pantyhose
Duct Tape
Scissors
Some tool to poke holes (pen, awl, etc) through the Duct tape.

Their easy as hell to clean, just snap them or wipe them with a wet rag. I put them between my fans and my case, and can clean them without having to take them out. Best part is..its CHEAP. (about $3 if you have hangers you can scrap )
