My wife dropped her laptop. Not too far, onto the carpet, and she claims it was *probably* not in operation at the time. Great.
Here's what I get now:
laptop does not boot up. bios starts, system fan
starts on high as usual, then the bios reports
02FA Fan Error!!
!! Please turn off system and check your fan!!
This happens as the fan spins down. The fan functions electrically, it
seems to be an error related to the speedstep process. I cannot enter
the BIOS to change anything, the error occurs too soon.
I pulled the back cover off, removed the fan assembly, examined the motherboard. There are no obvious defects. The 3 pin fan header plug looks OK.
Do you think the RPM lead may be broken, and deserves a closer look?
Any other ideas?
