Fan direction?

Can y'all make suggestions on the direction of my fans? I have a picture at http://overlunch.com/fans.jpg .

Right now the TR2-M4 heatsink/fan is oriented "vertically" such that the air enters from the top/bottom of the case. The top is an inch away from the bottom fan of my PSU.

There is a 80mm fan to the bottom left (back of case) of the TR2-M4, and it's currently bringing the air inwards. I have room for a fan on the bottom right (front of case), but there isn't anything there.

After I clean up my cable mess, would it be better to rotate the TR2-M4's fan so that the air would enter from the front/back of the case?

Should my case fan push hot air out or bring cooler air in?

If I added a front fan, would I have that bring cooler air in and have the rear push hot air out?

Thanks in advance for all my newbie questions!

I suspect the best way to figure it out is to try in different combinations. Vertically mounted, the blower is fighting the PSU fan for air. Horizontally mounted, the air off the HS is lined up to circle back into the blower.

As for your case fans, if you mount a fan in the front, it should be blowing inwards. Generally speaking, rear case fans should blow out, but the correct way is really whichever direction gives you lower temps.

I was told put intake in the front/side, exhaust back/top, and oh yea.. clean up the wires..

Routing or at least hiding your wires in a bay would certainly help with cooling. Also a fan in the rear as an intake may not work as, has been said, it would be drawing in the hot air from the PSU.

"If I added a front fan, would I have that bring cooler air in and have the rear push hot air out?"

That would be best.

Oh yes it does... I've always heard that say you have 6 fans, you want three blowing in and three blowing out.

makes a huge difference, i had a noob builder frend who put like 6 80mm fans all blowing in on his gf's case and was wondering why it was so hot. like moneyshot said, u should have them equal for optimal airflow. i'd suggest a slightly positive air pressure (more in than out) just so dust doesnt get sucked it from places where they shouldnt be coming in.

obviously, the top should blow out because hot air rises, so the hot air goes there, dont push it all back down. the rear exhaust will help vent away all the hot air coming immediately off the heatsink, but then it can always disrupt the airflow to the hsf by causing turbulence in that area since air is getting sucked in 2 different directions. you can have some kind of duct to solve that, but its not crucial.

the front and sides should be intake to cool the hard drives and pci cards, hth.
