I recently built a new rig. I put 4x Deltas that spin at 4000RPM and my heat sink/fan onto a Sunbeam rheobus fan controller. Each channel on the controller is rated for up to 30w.
Am I at risk if I change the fan speed throughout the day? Will I burn my power supply out by doing this? I'm not even sure if it has any negative affect seeing that the PSU has to give out a lot of power to the fans as I change them each one by one.
My system is as follows:
Seasonic M12D 850W
ASUS Rampage Formula X48
Intel QX9650 CPU @ 3.0GHz
1x300GB Velociraptor
1x1TB 7200.11 Seagate
eVGA Geforce GTX280 not overclocked
8GB Mushkin Red memory
Should I be concerned that I may be hurting the PSU if I change the fan speeds throughout the day?
Update: Another question, is it safe to turn the fan off completely? I'm trying to test something as I can hear some weird rattling as though a fan is spinning down on its own. I'm trying to rule this out. Will it be safe if I leave like 3 of the fans completely off while I test the others?
