Fan consultants...step forward

I have a Lian Li PC-A16 case with 3 case fans. Front bottom of case sucking in, upper-rear blowing out, and a side-fan. They are the stock fans that came with the case. I don't know whether they are 80mm or 120mm.... I know...DUH... I'm no expert here, that's for sure.

About 2 yrs. ago or so, I bought 4 new case fans from a friend. Two are Yate Loon # D12 SL-12 (DC 12 v .30a) with a small white, square MB connector and w/ an attached molex 4 pin. The other two are Papst/ebmpapst #4412 F/2GLL, (12v, 60mA, .72W). The Papst fans only have the little white square female connector. I believe (you tell me) that these are very good fans. I want better cooling for my rig, and I think either pair will be better than the stock fans in the case now. I don't know yet if these are the right size. ...won't have to spend money...nice.

Questions:

1)Of the two, which are better for maximum cooling.
2)If the Papst is better, can I just use the small, white, square connector to the MB, and
I don't need the Molex the way the Yate loon's are set up?

Sorry for my ignorance here...

Help please

Thx

The yates are wired to use either plug, mobo header or molex. not both. As to which is better? try them both and you tell me. I like the yate loons and really haven't found anything else that is worth buying when compared to the price.

what WB said. They're all really good fans but with very different noise signatures. You might prefer one over the other regardless of the rated dBA.

These 2 case fans are 120x25mm stock LianLi #LI121225BL-4. I just now replaced the front one w/ my Papst... I don't notice any difference in airflow. I need 2 more powerful case fans...

Recommendations?

Thx

I know the CFM of the Lian Li stock case fans are a bit more than the low-speed YL. The Papst are known as quality fans but I have no idea as to their noise or CFM levels. Just looked on Mouser.com and the Papst puts out about 20-25% more CFM than the Y-L at nominal voltage - probably the same or a bit more than the stock LL fans (they used to use Adda fans a lot, but IDKwhat L-L uses now). The Papst you have cost about 6 times the Y-L while the fastest Papst in the same series is nine times the price of the Y-L. The specs I have say the Papst would be about the same noise as the Y-L while the L-L would be the highest noise (all running at 12V).

You could check out the Cooler Master (up to 110 CFM) fans I have at the links in my sig below. I also have them listed on fleaBay, but can't post a link, just search on the model no.: Y720CCD-25K1-GP and you'll find it. They come as a kit with passive controllers plus I supply some added parts and instructions (there's nothing very useful in the way of instructions that come with them). I wish my review of them on TechIMO.com was still up, then I could link you direct. You might find a cached version with a Google search - yes just search on Y720CCD-25K1-GP and you'll find a link to my review of the black version (main review of both the blk and LED versions) which is only available in Googles cached pages right now.

Great reply...appreciate it. Couldn't get to the Coolermaster info....I'll try your other locations.

Since this Papst is a good fan( I have 2), I'm delaying the inevitable......I do need HSF for this E6600 cpu that is running too warm. Liking the Xigmatek S1283...w/ pushpins/no clamp on backside of MB...

I know, everyone and his brother are telling me to remove MB, put clamp on backside for a good installation of the HSF...guess I'm getting used to the idea of being completely miserable for the 1/2 day it takes me to do this... (at least...)...

When you go to Google, use the following- Y720CCD-25K1-GP zepper -for your search string (that is the review of the black version, but it's also the main review). That search puts my entries right at the top of the hits list. Look at the Y720DCD version in the Google hits for the LED version review but it mainly has just the differences which are minor. Click on the "Cached" link at the bottom of each hit to read the cached reviews - I like that Google caches many web pages so that even if the site's Webmaster screws up, you can still get to a pretty complete copy of the page. You can also see "techimo" in the original URL for another clue that the hit is mine. The guys at techimo.com were working on their servers this past weekend and haven't gotten it all back up yet or I could give you a direct link. I hope it's soon as I refer people to my reviews there all the time.

I just changed my fleaBay title back to the Y720DCD-25T1-GP (I had taken the Y720 off for some reason, sorry). Or just search for listings by technoia using the advanced search option there. I have only two listings there right now.

Zepper...

That CoolerMaster fan is very appealing...

However, being a relative-novice hooking up items like this, I know I will mess it up. Only way I would purchase a few of these was if I had fool-proof, very-detailed, step-by-step instructions.
