Fan causes horrible vibrations.

At first I thought it was my power supply and got scared. After realizing it was my fan I am a little bit confused. How is this fan causing such horrible vibrations? This is just a 120MM at the bottom of my P180. Its not contacting any wires or anything its just being really loud and causing vibrations all the way through the desk. With a P180 its held on by a sort of black thing. I am not sure if this is the problem or what.

Anyone have an idea on if its the actual fan or the way its mounted? Anyone have similar problems?

It could be loose and so shaking, but at full speed "just" a 120mm moves a lot of air and has plenty of energy to vibrate a case. Check the fan is snug in the holder and that the holder itself is not loose.

Yeah I am not sure how its even held in there, because theres some weird plastic thing holding the fan in. Not even sure how to take off the plastic thing.

I tried it on the lowest fan setting but it still vibrates. Actually when the computer starts its fine, it takes it a while for it to vibrate. If it was loose wouldnt it vibrate as soon as I turn it on and not take 2-5 minutes? And if then it got loose after that, wouldnt it stay loose when I turn it back on?

looking at this <edit> is it the one above psu or in front of the psu..? either way I had an antec case that used these little plastic/rubbery push thrus to retain a fan ..every so often would get buzzy..finally used reg case fan screws and no more buzz ..if you have another 120mm try swapping positions ..gl ..fuggin' toms ..use the following google then click fullsize link at top of google cache page for fullsize pic

Yeah I just took it out and its screwed all the way into the plastic thing, so its either hte plastic holder thats causing the issue or the fan itself.

These are pretty cool in my book. I put one between the case & every fan on every machine I have, and I've never had a vibration problem (my cases use 80mm fans). They're made of a clear silicon-gel material that fits around the edge of the fan. Piece of cake to install, and they don't cost much. Very good quality too.

I don't know if they're appropriate for your particular sitch, as I don't know much about the P180 and its fans. Just making you aware they exist (if you didn't know already). Good luck. 🙂

BTW, what happens if you disconnect the fan momentarily? Does the case vibration stop?

I had a blade break on one of my fans. Caused my whole tower to shake. Make sure the blades are intacked.
