Ok i noticed my PC making some strange sounds the other day , opened it up and i noticed it was my processor fan that was making them. Its basically dead but anyways, what would be a good replacment fan?? Also do i need to get this fan asap or would it be ok if i left it for a little while??
Thnx

if your cpu was a retail version ie came with heatsink/fan combo from a sealed box & is less than 3 years old then it should still be under Intel warranty. This is assuming you've not modified it in any way.
For godness sake, don't run your processor if the fan isn't working as it will most likely toast!

If it is, you wont last very long (couple minutes maybe)

Its kind of a greyish color, i opened it up to take a look and try and take it out my IBM has it contected to the mobo so you cant get it off . Also the fan is connecter to the processor in a way that u cant remove the fan from it? I looked and its not screws holding the two together is this pieve of metal that acts like screws but it wont comeout no matter how i try. Im not really sure what to do.

EDIT - for the greyish color i said i was regarding the color of the fan which i dont think you were asking about, what exactly did u want to know the color of?

I think several of us have extra Fan/heatsinks from out retail P3 and Celeron2 PGFCA format. The flip chip CPU are square in shape The slot 1 is a retangular shape. I would guess that you have a Slot one in a OEM computer.

If it's an IBM PC, give IBM a call. They'll probably replace the fan without argument. They'd rather replace a $5 fan than a $250 processor.

Just squeeze the corner edges together, lift upwards & the fan should come off with its plastic mountlng.
