I think Napolean destroyed himself because of his girl pushing him.
Same with Hitler. He just wanted to be a simple shoe salesman.

OP,

How about changing your Thread to "Famous men in history whose lives were greatly enhanced by their wife?".... You would get a lot more examples

Einstein's first wife helped him figure out the Special Theory of Relativity, and Einstein was an ingrateful deadbeat dad after he got famous.

There are so many examples of men succeeding partly because of their wife's help.

*********************************************

But if you insist on showing only the negative, Socrates (from what we know of him through writings about him) did not like his wife at all, and she tormented him about stuff. Maybe that is why suicide or the death penalty by poison seemed so easy for him. ;) OH SNAP.

Her name was Mileva Maric (Marik?), look it up yourself.

Einstein even gave her the money from his Nobel Prize to shut her up about their collaboration and their pending divorce. He was so famous by then, that scandal would have screwed up his image. The guy was a genious and likable, but he was a tool when it came to relationship committment.

**EDIT**
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mileva_Maric

There are plenty of books that takl about this. It is pretty controversial.

Some have suggested that she may have contributed to Einstein's early research, although that's very unlikely

but it does look suspicious.

She was a soundboard for his work. If you ever follow Einstein's work, you will see a strong colloration with the amount and the degree of work that was done when he was married to this girl, who was also a Physicist (so it made it wasy for them to constantly discuss ideas). They would have luncheon and dinner parties where that was all they talked about.

His work was not as ingenious after that. He was also bad at simple math, which was another thing she probably helped him at.

Also, he rewrote his Special Theory of Relativity and burned his original later on, so there is no way to find out how much she helped, but at least she was a sounding board for his work, where he could confide in her his ideas and theories and they could discuss it in a higher Physics mentallity as much as they wanted.

Hello ATOT,

I am having a lot of girl troubles. This girl that I married when I was in my post-graduate classes is giving me a hard time. She used to help me out a little and was useful at times to talk to, but now I feel like moving on. I have found another girl in Berlin. She is nice, but the other girl keeps pestering me for Child Support.

I have enough to worry about now that I am rich and famous, why does she keep bugging me. I am thinking about using prize money I got to give to her, but I want to keep it on the downlow because of my reputation. I have already changed out the money into 3 different currencies so it will be hard for people to track to me (I know that that will lessen the value of the money, but what do I care). Meh, I figure this money will shut her up.

What do you guys think? ;) :p

It would read something like that. The guy was likable, a jokester, and brilliant, but when it came down to relationship responsibility, he chose fame over family.
